The Devourer's Awakening

571 Words
The world shook. Not just the mountain. Not just the kingdom. The entire world. The tremor spread across oceans and continents alike. Cities felt it. Dragons felt it. Even the stars above seemed to dim for a brief moment. Something ancient had awakened. Something that should never have existed. Inside the Temple of the First Dragon, everyone stood frozen. The cracks in Eryndor's crystal prison spread like spiderwebs. Golden light burst from the fractures. The ancient dragon's eyes widened. "It's happening sooner than I feared." Kael clenched his fists. "What is?" Eryndor looked directly at him. "The final seal has begun to fail." Another violent tremor shook the mountain. Outside, thousands of shadow creatures scattered in panic. Even the mighty obsidian dragon beneath Seraphina backed away nervously. Every living creature could feel it. Fear. Pure instinctive fear. Far beneath the world... In a prison older than time itself... Two enormous crimson eyes stared into the darkness. The Devourer was awake. Chains forged by gods wrapped around its colossal body. Mountains were smaller than those chains. Yet one by one... They were breaking. CRACK. A chain snapped. The creature smiled. CRACK. Another chain shattered. Its smile widened. For the first time in ten thousand years... The Devourer laughed. And the sound echoed across reality itself. Back in the temple... Astra suddenly spread her wings. "Everyone get back!" BOOOOOM! The crystal prison exploded. A wave of golden energy surged through the chamber. Kael shielded his eyes. When the light faded... Eryndor stood before them. Not trapped. Free. The First Dragon had finally awakened. His true form filled the temple. Golden scales shimmered like sunlight. Massive wings stretched across the sky itself. Ancient power radiated from every breath. Even Seraphina stared in awe. "A real Ancient Dragon..." Eryndor looked toward the horizon. Far away. Toward something only he could see. Then his expression darkened. "The Devourer has awakened two centuries ahead of prophecy." Kael's stomach dropped. "Can we stop it?" Silence. The First Dragon slowly turned toward him. "Not yet." The answer hit harder than any attack. "You are not strong enough." Kael lowered his head. Deep down... He already knew. Suddenly— A black portal ripped open above the temple. Everyone immediately prepared for battle. Dark energy poured from the portal. Then a figure stepped through. Valthor. The Shadow King himself. The air became heavy. Even Seraphina looked surprised. "My king?" But Valthor ignored her. His eyes were fixed on Eryndor. And Eryndor's eyes were fixed on him. Ancient enemies. Meeting again after thousands of years. Valthor smiled. "Hello, old friend." Eryndor's expression remained cold. "You have doomed us all." Valthor laughed. "No." Dark flames swirled around him. "I've set us free." The sky darkened. The mountains trembled. And then Valthor revealed the truth. The truth that changed everything. "I am not trying to awaken the Devourer." Silence. Kael blinked. "What?" Valthor's smile vanished. For the first time... He looked serious. Even afraid. "I am trying to kill it." Nobody spoke. Nobody moved. The world itself seemed to stop. Then Eryndor whispered words that made everyone's blood run cold. "Then that means..." The First Dragon looked toward the distant horizon. Toward the darkness beneath the world. And for the first time in history... Fear appeared in his eyes. "Something worse is coming."
