The Harrison mansion looked peaceful from the outside.
Tall palm trees swayed gently in the wind, and the large fountain in the garden sparkled under the afternoon sun. Anyone looking at the mansion would think it was the perfect home for a powerful and wealthy family.
But Lena was beginning to feel that something was wrong inside those marble walls.
Ever since she heard about the locked room in the east wing, her mind had been restless.
Madam Harrison had died ten years ago.
And yet her study remained locked.
No one was allowed inside.
Not even the family.
Why?
Lena tried to focus on her work as she polished the silver plates in the dining hall, but her thoughts kept drifting back to that door.
“Lena!”
She quickly looked up.
Mrs. Dalton was standing beside the long dining table, inspecting the servants’ work with her usual sharp eyes.
“Yes, ma’am?”
“Stop daydreaming,” Mrs. Dalton said coldly. “The Harrison family will be having dinner guests tonight. Everything must be perfect.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Lena lowered her head and continued polishing.
Across the room, two other maids whispered quietly while arranging the table.
“Did you hear?” one of them said.
“Hear what?”
“Mr. Adrian returned from the city earlier than expected.”
Lena tried not to listen, but she couldn’t help it.
The other maid leaned closer.
“They say he’s arguing with his father again.”
“About the company?”
“No,” the first maid whispered. “About his mother.”
Lena’s hands stopped moving for a moment.
His mother.
Madam Harrison.
Before she could hear more, Mrs. Dalton clapped her hands loudly.
“That’s enough talking! Finish your work.”
The maids immediately fell silent.
That evening, the mansion was alive with activity.
Elegant guests arrived in expensive cars, laughing as they entered the grand hall. Crystal chandeliers glowed brightly above them, and soft music floated through the air.
The servants moved quickly between the guests, serving drinks and food.
Lena carried a tray of glasses carefully through the room.
Everything felt overwhelming.
So many rich and powerful people.
As she walked past the staircase, she suddenly heard raised voices coming from the hallway nearby.
She stopped.
It was Mr. Harrison.
And Adrian.
“You need to let the past go!” Mr. Harrison said angrily.
“And you need to tell the truth,” Adrian replied.
There was a long silence.
Lena’s heart pounded as she stood behind the wall, hidden from view.
“You think digging into your mother’s death will change anything?” Mr. Harrison said coldly.
“I know something happened that night,” Adrian said. “And I won’t stop until I find out what.”
Lena felt a chill run down her spine.
So Adrian believed something was wrong too.
Footsteps suddenly approached.
Lena quickly walked away before they could see her.
Later that night, after the guests had left and the mansion became quiet again, Lena returned to the east wing to finish cleaning.
The long hallway was silent.
The locked door stood at the end of the corridor.
Just like before.
Dark.
Mysterious.
She hesitated.
Mrs. Dalton had told them not to go near it.
But curiosity pulled her forward.
Slowly, Lena walked toward the door.
Her heart beat faster with each step.
When she reached it, she noticed something strange.
The door wasn’t fully locked.
It was slightly open.
Just a little.
She frowned.
That hadn’t been the case earlier.
“Hello?” she whispered softly.
No answer.
The hallway remained silent.
Lena gently pushed the door.
It creaked open.
The room inside was covered in shadows and dust. Moonlight streamed through the tall windows, illuminating old furniture, bookshelves, and a large wooden desk.
It looked like the room had been untouched for years.
Lena stepped inside slowly.
Dust filled the air as she moved.
On the walls were several portraits of Madam Harrison.
She was beautiful.
Elegant.
But something about her eyes in the paintings felt… sad.
Lena approached the large desk in the center of the room.
Papers were scattered across its surface.
Old documents.
Letters.
And one small envelope.
Her name wasn’t on it.
But written on the front were the words:
“If something happens to me.”
Lena’s hands trembled slightly as she opened it.
Inside was a folded letter.
She began reading.
"To whoever finds this…
If you are reading this, then my fears were real.
I believe someone in this house is trying to kill me.
If I die, it will not be an accident.
Trust no one… not even—"
Suddenly—
The door slammed shut behind her.
Lena gasped and turned around.
Someone was standing at the doorway.
Tall.
Silent.
Watching her.
It was Adrian.
His eyes slowly moved from Lena… to the letter in her hand.
The room fell into a heavy silence.
“Where did you get that?” he asked quietly.
Lena’s heart pounded.
“I—I found it on the desk.”
Adrian stepped closer.
His expression was serious.
“Do you know what you’ve just discovered?”
Lena shook her head.
Adrian looked at the letter again.
Then he said something that made Lena’s blood run cold.
“That letter could destroy my family.”
