Chapter One
The iron gates of the Harrison Mansion slowly creaked open, revealing a long driveway that stretched toward one of the most magnificent homes in the city.
Tall palm trees lined the path like silent guards. Expensive cars were parked neatly beside a grand fountain that glittered under the afternoon sun. The mansion itself stood proudly in the distance—three floors of polished marble walls, wide glass windows, and elegant balconies overlooking perfectly trimmed gardens.
A small yellow taxi stopped in front of the entrance.
The door opened, and a young woman stepped out.
Her name was Lena Carter.
She wore a simple maid’s uniform and carried a small suitcase in one hand. Her dark hair was neatly tied behind her head, and her expression was calm despite the nervous feeling growing inside her chest.
Lena looked up at the massive mansion.
“So this is the Harrison Mansion,” she whispered to herself.
For most people, this place represented power, wealth, and luxury. The Harrison family was one of the richest families in the country, known for their powerful business empire.
But Lena had not come here to admire the mansion.
She had come to work.
Not as a guest.
Not as a visitor.
But as a maid.
The taxi driver glanced at her through the window.
“You sure this is where you want to work?” he asked. “People say the Harrison family is very strict.”
Lena smiled politely.
“I’ll be fine.”
The driver shrugged and drove away, leaving Lena standing alone before the giant doors.
Before she could knock, the door opened.
A tall woman in a black uniform stepped outside. Her sharp eyes immediately studied Lena from head to toe.
“You must be the new maid,” the woman said in a cold voice.
“Yes, ma’am.”
“I’m Mrs. Dalton, the head housekeeper here.”
Mrs. Dalton crossed her arms.
“You look young.”
“I’m twenty-two.”
“This job is not easy,” Mrs. Dalton continued. “The mansion is large, and the Harrison family demands perfection.”
“I understand.”
Mrs. Dalton stared at Lena for another moment before turning around.
“Follow me.”
Lena walked into the mansion behind her.
The moment she stepped inside, she felt the cool marble floor beneath her shoes. A massive chandelier hung from the ceiling, sparkling like a cluster of diamonds. Paintings covered the walls, and expensive furniture filled the enormous hall.
But Lena’s attention wasn’t on the luxury.
She noticed the servants.
Several maids stood nearby, whispering among themselves.
One of them—a woman with bright red lipstick and sharp eyes—looked Lena up and down.
“So this is the new girl?” she asked.
Mrs. Dalton nodded.
“Yes. Her name is Lena.”
The maid smirked.
“She looks too delicate to survive here.”
The other servants laughed quietly.
Lena kept her head down and said nothing.
Mrs. Dalton ignored the comments and continued walking.
“You will wake up at five every morning,” she explained. “Your duties include cleaning the west wing, assisting in the kitchen, and helping with laundry.”
“That’s fine,” Lena said.
Mrs. Dalton stopped suddenly and turned toward her.
“Let me make something very clear,” she said firmly. “The Harrison family does not tolerate mistakes. One broken item in this house could cost more than your entire salary for a year.”
Lena nodded politely.
“I’ll be careful.”
Mrs. Dalton handed her a small key.
“This is your room. The servants’ quarters are downstairs.”
Lena took the key and quietly walked down the hallway.
As she disappeared around the corner, the maids immediately began whispering again.
“She won’t last a week,” one said.
“Maybe two days,” another replied.
The maid with red lipstick smiled coldly.
“We’ll see.”
Meanwhile, Lena entered her small room.
It was simple—just a bed, a small desk, and a narrow window.
Nothing like the luxurious bedroom she had grown up in.
Lena placed her suitcase on the bed and sat down slowly.
For the first time since arriving, she allowed herself to breathe deeply.
Then she pulled out her phone.
She dialed a number.
The call connected immediately.
“Miss Carter,” a man’s voice answered respectfully.
Lena looked around the small room.
“Yes. I’ve arrived.”
“Are you safe?”
“Yes.”
There was a short pause.
“Your father still believes this is a bad idea.”
Lena smiled faintly.
“He worries too much.”
“You are the heir to Carter Corporation,” the man reminded her. “You shouldn’t be working as a maid.”
Lena walked toward the window and looked at the enormous mansion outside.
“That’s exactly why I need to do this.”
“Why?”
Lena’s voice became quieter.
“Because I want to know what life is like when people don’t see your money.”
The man sighed.
“Very well. But we will continue watching over you.”
“That’s fine.”
Lena ended the call and placed the phone back in her bag.
To everyone in the Harrison Mansion, she was just another poor maid looking for work.
But the truth was far more shocking.
Lena Carter was not poor.
She was the daughter of one of the most powerful billionaires in the country.
And no one in this mansion had any idea who had just walked through their doors.
Not the servants.
Not the Harrison family.
And especially not the cold and powerful master of the house
Adrian Harrison.
But very soon, the entire mansion would learn the truth.
And when they did, nothing would ever be the same again.
