I ran up the stairs to the roof of the school, my feet were pounding the steps as I cursed Henry under my breath. How dare he! But as I reached the top, I suddenly remembered the kiss - the soft pressure of Henry's lips, the sweet sensation that had left me breathless. I felt a flutter in my chest, a happy sigh escaping my lips.
"What am I doing?" I chided myself. "I'm supposed to be angry, not dreamy!"
"Henry you b**tard" I screamed
Just then, I heard a voice behind me. "Hey, are you alright?"
I turned to see a very handsome boy I hadn't met before, he was coming to my side. He had a sweet smile and a pretty eyes. My heart skipped a beat as our eyes met.
"I...I'm fine," I stammered, my heart racing.
"You aren't from here?, you don't sound local" he asked, his eyes crinkling at the corners.
I shook my head, my ponytail bobbing. "No, I'm from Texas. I just moved here."
His smile widened. "Welcome to Ravenhood" he read out the name on my name tag, "Hadiza Bred." He bent towards me, his voice low and husky. "I've been here before, but seeing your reaction, I think you might be the one who really needs this place."
My heart skipped another beat as he walked away, leaving me feeling lost and admiring. I couldn't get my eyes off him, my mind replaying the sweet way he had smiled at me.
"Who is that?" I wondered, my heart still racing.
I took my time before heading back downstairs, my mind racing with thoughts of the kissing. But as I approached the classroom, I could hear the whispers and snickers of my classmates.
"Did you see them kissing?"
"I can't believe she would do that with Henry!"
"Ugh, she's so desperate!"
My heart sank. I had hoped to blend in and keep a low profile, but now it seemed like the whole school was talking about me. I felt a surge of anxiety and hesitated, peering through the glass door of the classroom.
"Why is this happening to me?" I muttered to myself. "I just wanted a quiet life here..."
Just then, I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was Amanda, my new friend from the previous day.
"Hey, girl! What's going on?" she asked, concern etched on her face.
I sighed. "Just the usual drama. Henry and I kissed, and now everyone's talking about it."
Amanda's eyes widened "it's all over the school forum. Someone even uploaded a video of you two kissing. Let me show you."
She pulled out her phone and showed me the video. My heart sank as I saw the hateful comments flooding the post.
"Why would she taint Henry's lips?"
"Gross, she's so desperate!"
I felt a surge of anger and embarrassment. "Ugh, this is ridiculous."
Amanda put a hand on my arm. "Don't worry, Hadiza. We don't have to go back to class. Let's go somewhere else and forget about all this drama."
I nodded gratefully. "Yeah, that sounds amazing."
Together, we walked to the convenience store across the street and grabbed a few soft drinks. As we sat outside, sipping our drinks and chatting, I felt a weight lift off my shoulders.
Amanda raised an eyebrow. "So, what do you think about Henry?"
I shrugged. "Honestly, I don't think much of him. He seems immature and only cares about himself."
Amanda smiled. "I know, right? But he's really handsome, isn't he?"
I rolled my eyes. "I guess, but beauty isn't everything. I mean, have you seen the way he treats people? He's got a gross attitude and personality."
Amanda chuckled. "Yeah, I've heard some women celebrities are even after him, but I guess they don't have good taste in men."
Just then, the door of the convenience store opened, and the boy I had seen from the rooftop walked in. Amanda's eyes widened in surprise.
"Max! Oh my god, I can't believe it's you!"
I raised an eyebrow. "You know him?"
Amanda nodded. "Yeah, Max is like a legend in our school. He's the second most handsome guy after Henry, but they don't get along at all. They're always fighting whenever they get the chance."
I watched as Max walked towards us, his eyes fixed on Amanda with a charming smile.
"Hey, Amanda. Long time no see."
Amanda blushed. "Max, what are you doing here? I thought you rarely came to school."
Max shrugged. "I was in the neighborhood, so I thought I'd drop by. And I see you're with the new girl, Hadiza."
I smiled, feeling a little intimidated by Max's charisma. "Yeah, that's me."
Max's eyes locked onto mine, and I felt a shiver run down my spine. "Well, it's nice to meet you, Hadiza. I'm Max."
Amanda grinned. "And I'm glad to see you two finally met. But be warned, Max is a cheater, and his family is super rich, but he's humble, unlike Henry."
Max chuckled. "Hey, watch it, Amanda. I'm not that bad."
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by the dynamics between Max and Amanda. "So, you two are friends?"
Amanda nodded. "Yeah, we've known each other since freshman year, but we've had our ups and downs."
Max smiled. "Yeah, we've had our fair share of fights, but we always make up in the end."
I watched them banter back and forth, feeling like I was witnessing a long-standing friendship that was both strong and complicated.
As I sat between Amanda and Max, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. For the first time since arriving at Ravenhood, I felt like I belonged. The tension and anxiety that had been building up inside me began to dissipate, replaced by a warm feeling of acceptance.
I watched as Amanda and Max bantered back and forth, their smiles and laughter infectious. They were like two old friends who knew each other's quirks and eccentricities, and yet, they still managed to find joy in each other's company.
As I listened to their conversation, I felt like I was finally a part of something. I was no longer the outsider looking in, but a participant in their little circle of friendship.
For a moment, I forgot about the drama of my family issues, the snickers and whispers of my previous school classmates, and the pressure to fit in. All that mattered was the present moment, surrounded by people who accepted me for who I was.
I smiled, feeling a sense of happiness that I hadn't experienced in a long time. It was a small, fleeting moment of joy, but it was enough to give me hope. Maybe, just maybe, I had found my place at Ravenhood after all.
As we sat in the convenience store, laughing and chatting, suddenly, students were seen rushing outside the school, screaming and frantically pointing towards the building. Our smiles faded, and we exchanged worried glances.
Amanda's eyes widened. "What's going on?"
Max's face darkened. "Let's go find out."
We rushed outside, following the crowd towards the school. Our hearts raced with anticipation and fear. What could be happening?
As we approached the building, a chilling sight met our eyes. A female student lay on the ground, her body brutally mutilated. Her eyes were frozen in a permanent stare, her face contorted in a silent scream.
My hand flew to my mouth, suppressing a gasp. Amanda's eyes went wide with horror, while Max's face turned ashen.
The student's chest was ripped open, her heart torn out. It was as if her killer had wanted to remove the very essence of her being. The sight was gruesome, inhumane.
"Oh my god..." Amanda whispered, her voice trembling.
Max's eyes scanned the area, his face set in a determined expression. "We need to get out of here, now."
But it was too late. The sound of sirens pierced the air, and police cars screeched to a halt nearby. The crowd began to disperse, and we were pushed aside by the swarm of officers rushing towards the crime scene.
As we stumbled backward, our eyes fixed on the gruesome sight, a haunting question echoed in our minds: Who could have committed such a heinous crime?
