Chapter3:The Man With the Golden Eyes

514 Words
The day the twins’ lives changed began like any other—gray skies stretching over the orphanage, children running along the gravel paths, their laughter echoing faintly against the walls. But for Luka, Elias, and Mira, it was the day the world seemed to tilt on its axis. He arrived in a sleek, black carriage that gleamed even under the overcast sky. The children had never seen a man like him before—tall, impeccably dressed, with hair the color of midnight and eyes that seemed to see into their very souls. The orphanage staff whispered among themselves. His presence was commanding, yet not unkind. “I am Mr. Valerian,” he said, his voice smooth like velvet, carrying a warmth that put even frightened children at ease. “I have come for you three.” Mira’s eyes widened, clinging to her brothers instinctively. “For us? Why?” she asked, her small voice trembling. Mr. Valerian knelt, bringing himself to their level. “Because you are special,” he said simply. “And you deserve a life beyond these walls—a life where you can grow, learn, and… flourish.” Luka’s heart pounded. He had never known luxury. He had never known anything beyond the orphanage and the faint dreams of water that called to him at night. But something about Mr. Valerian felt different. Not just safe—but… meant to be. With gentle hands, the man led them to the carriage. As the wheels turned, taking them away from the only home they had ever known, the children pressed their faces to the glass, watching the gray orphanage disappear behind them. The city welcomed them with bright streets, towering buildings, and a house so grand it seemed to scrape the clouds. Rooms filled with sunlight and warmth, toys that gleamed, books that promised adventures—they had entered a world they had only ever imagined. And yet, as they explored their new home, Luka paused at the edge of the balcony, feeling a breeze that smelled faintly of salt and freedom. “Do you hear that?” he asked softly, his voice barely above a whisper. Mira tilted her head, listening. For a heartbeat, the sound was there—the faintest echo of waves, gentle and insistent, calling to something buried deep inside them. Elias shivered and hugged his sister. Mr. Valerian watched them carefully from behind, a small, knowing smile on his lips. He didn’t speak of what he knew—that these children carried secrets beneath their skin, gifts from a world the human eye could not see. But he understood that their story was only beginning, and that destiny had more in store than even he could predict. That night, as the children drifted to sleep in their new rooms, the moon rose over the city, spilling silver light through the windows. And somewhere far across the ocean, a mother’s heart stirred, feeling the faint pull of her children—her lost treasures—growing in a world she could not yet reach. The tides were shifting.
