Sora
I brush against Kade’s chest with my head, signaling that I’m awake but he only clenches tighter around my body.
“I am not waking my girl for you” He growls out, the vibration sends chills through my entire body and I have to bite my lower lip to stop myself from moaning.
Kade starts moving again and I lean in further to avoid Cameron catching that I am actually awake. Once we get into my office, Kade doesn’t set me down immediately, his arms wrap tighter around me and I feel like a cat being smothered by my owner. I should apologise to Bella, my cat, when I get home.
“Stay still.” He orders, before taking a seat in one of the lounge chairs. I hate being blindsided so bad and where the heck is Sandy? Naturally she should be squealing or trying to get me awake.
“I want to see her!” Cam yells from outside, banging against my door. I forcefully pry myself away from the comfort of Kade’s arms, already missing the warmth of it.
“What do you—?” I interrupt whatever lecture Kade has prepared, “I can’t keep running away from him, Kade. In the end he’s my best friend.”
Kade holds me close, his eyes searching mine for a bit before letting go of me. The short interaction sends shivers down my spine. I don’t know when Kade became so easy to understand or when he started understanding me right back, but whatever this thing was, it needed to stop.
I unlock the office, my arms crossed as I face a very red Cameron, and a surprised Sandy standing behind him. She sends me a thumbs up mouthing something that sounds like. “You got this.”
“What do you want, Cameron?” I ask, glaring at him. He looks very dishevelled, like he didn’t sleep a wink last night. Then again, neither did I. My cheeks heat instantly and I shove the memory away before it can do any more damage.
“Did you spend a night with him?” He questions glaring at my neck and I roll my eyes, who did he think he was?
“That’s none of your business, Cam. I thought we already made this clear last night?”
“No we didn’t. You walked out on me and kissed my brother! I didn’t agree to shit.”
I rub my hands across my face in frustration, this was just so confusing. My love life shouldn’t concern him in the least but here he was, acting this way it drove me nuts.
Is he jealous of Kade? I glance behind to Kade, who’s thumbing away angrily on his phone and then back at my best friend who looks so empty without me. My heart aches and I want to pull him into a comforting hug.
“Daisy isn’t mad at you anymore either, she’s willing to forgive you. Just end this game you’re playing with Kade.”
Pause that hug thought. An angry laugh bubbles out of my chest, forgive me? I know Cam uses me to fuel his ego, and every day I hoped for a different outcome but it was always the same thing. He calls and I’ll come running. Hurts me, pouts and I consider pulling into a hug, just like right now.
“I don’t need her forgiveness, I already made it clear that I don’t trust her, and you don’t like my boyfriend either.”
“What do you even mean by that, Sora? Less than 24hrs and you’ve already changed. Kade isn’t good for you, can’t you see that?”
“You’re joking right?” I ask glaring at him, Kade might be annoying but he's not a bad influence. “My relationship is none of your business, and if we want to talk about changing, do you think you didn’t change after getting with Daisy?”
He looks at me incredulously, confusing etching his face. “What does that mean?”
I heave a sigh, this shouldn’t be a conversation. In fact the only thing that should be running through my head is how to expose Daisy and well, handle the headlines. Can’t believe I went from nobody to appearing on the covers of magazines. Unpaid.
“Cam, I love you and you’ll always matter to me but I don’t want to keep fighting with you.”
His eyes soften and I notice they’re a bit sunken from being awake all night, I feel terribly bad for putting him through all that stress.
“I love you too Sora, that’s why I am asking you to call things off with him.” He signals behind me, and I shake my head negative.
“Will you break up with Daisy?” I blurt the question out loudly enough to cause Kade to stand behind me.
“I can’t just break up with her because you can’t forgive and forget the past,” Cam’s words slice through me, sharp and hurtful. “She’s changed and you can’t even give her a chance to show it.”
“She is cheating on you for f***s sake!” I yell pointing at him, “And I can’t believe you’re asking me to end things with Kade because you dislike him but won’t break up with someone who’s spent years making my life miserable.”
“That’s not it Sora, I promise, Daisy won’t cheat on me, not now not ever you must have misunderstood the call.”
I pinch the bridge of my nose, this is a futile conversation. Just a conversation without an end and without any concrete evidence he won’t believe a thing I say.
“Cam I’m not going to choose between you and my boyfriend,” Kade wraps his big arms around my waist, leaning down to my neck. “So you either start learning to get cozy with your brother or you just deal with it. It’s your choice.”
A glint of hurt flashes across his face but it is quickly replaced by tiredness. “I want you to be happy, Sora and I know Kade is only doing this to get back at me. He doesn’t deserve you.”
He glares over at Kade who’s chuckling in my ears, “Baby bro, not everything is about you. I wanted Sora, I want Sora and she’s mine.”
