Chapter 9
Bishop
The flight from Vermont to New Mexico was long as f***k, 7 ½ hrs. thank God for first class and leg room. Tom slept most of the way, while I played games on my handheld device. Once we arrived in Albuquerque, waiting at the baggage claim was a tall man about 6'2" strong jawline and build, military style high and tight haircut. With a sign that read desert moon. We walked up to him and introduced ourselves. “Hey, I'm Bishop Monroe from Monroe enterprise and this is my assistant, Thomas Drummond.” He shook both of our hands, not even batting an eye at Thomas being a bear. I know I informed the beta, but I still expected a little push back. I was in my signature jeans tee and high-top Jordans while Tom was in cargo pants flops and a mexican baja hoodie. As we walked through the airport, I asked Daniel how long the drive to the pack was. He informed us that it's another 6hr drive until we make it to pack lands. That even though the pack was in New Mexico the actual closet airport was in El Paso, Texas. He told us that since it was still pretty early, we would make it to the pack about 2 or 3 hours before dinner. I asked him was there anywhere we could get freshened up, before we met his alpha. He decided to stop at a truck stop closer to the pack so that me and Tom could get a quick shower in and change. The ride was eye-opening. Yeah, I traveled a lot. But I mostly kept to packs east of the Mississippi with about 2 on the west coast. This Southwestern scenery was spectacular open ranges for days. The skies are so clear and blue you can see a rainstorm forming miles away. As we rode, we went from a desert landscape to trees large pines the temperature noticeably dipped as we entered the higher elevations. Aries was uncharacteristically quiet in my head. Usually he has something to say about everywhere we’ve ever been. Thomas is once again sleeping in the back seat of the SUV.
“So, tell me you didn’t seem shocked that Thomas is a bear. I know that’s not something most packs would be used to seeing but Thomas and I have been friends since college, and I hope his presence will be accepted.” Daniel Chuckled “Honestly Mr. Monroe” “Bishop most people just call me Bishop.” “Umm ok Bishop as I was saying your friend Thomas back there will fit in just fine in desert moon. We’re a special pack if I do say so myself so don’t worry about anything.”
I was surprised by what he said but didn’t want to push any further conversation in case it came off rude. We drove through a small artsy town called Silver City before stopping at a pilot truck stop so me and Thomas could wash and change. It didn’t take us too long and we were back on our way. Driving through the Gila National Forest. About 2 hours into driving I started to feel a nauseating sensation go through my body.
“What the f**k is that” both me and Thomas said at the same time. “Sorry I didn’t warn y’all that is our barrier it keeps the humans from accidentally stumbling onto our pack lands. They can’t stomach the feeling it induces and instead of going forward they practically run from it. Other supernatural’s get the queasy feelings but most just power through it.”
I just nod my head as I settle back into the passenger seat. We arrived at the packs gates and were waved right through. It seemed like a small town similar to Snow Mountain but with different housing structures. “these style homes what are they called” I asked Daniel. “These are adobe homes” he replied. I just nodded as I looked out the window. But what caught my eye wasn’t the homes anymore, it was the small cub between two black bears walking down the street. What the f***k could be heard coming from the back seat again as Thomas noticed the same thing as I did. Daniel gave a good belly rolling laugh as he once again stated that desert moon was a very special pack and that we’ll see what he was talking about soon enough. We finally rolled up the Packhouse. It was huge 3 stories tall with a wide front porch. Standing on the porch was 2 males and 3 females. The biggest male was easily taller than me by a couple of inches, which was saying something, as I was 6’5”. As we got out of the car, I could smell wolf shifters, but witch and bear mixed in as well. Then the most alluring smell of hot chocolate and peppermint crashed into me. I almost stumbled the smell was so strong. I lost focus for just a moment and Aries almost took control. But I regained my composure fast scanning the people in attendance. Aries was yelling Mate by now giving me a f.ucking headache.
“Will you f.ucking calm the hell down.” “no I will not, our true mate is here” “we had one of those before, remember and look how that s.hit turned out” “No that skank was just a momentary lapse in judgement by the moon goddess. This woman here is our true mate, the other half of our soul” “yeah yeah yeah well, we will see” “Urgh! f.ucking humans I swear, and you were doing so good at listening to me” “well f***k you too Aries.”
As I scanned the area briefly giving each of the women my attention until I met the most amazing clear grey eyes and right then and there, I knew I had just found my second chance mate. She was small but goddamn, my mouth was watering just looking at her. She had white hair in a messy bun and delicate facial features. She was wearing black slacks and a baby blue shirt and blazer. She seemed nothing like Anna, where Anna exuded s*x and confidence. Her aura was powerful and commanding. She was even more beautiful with an almost other worldly beauty. Thomas got out of the car to stand beside me as I was still too stuck on stupid to move. The small goddess started to walk down the stairs seemingly dismissing Daniel. Once she was standing in front of me It dawned on me just how small and compacted, she really was. “Hello, I am Alpha Cj Romero welcome to desert moon pack” she said as she stuck her hand out to mine to shake. I reluctantly returned her handshake, the electric tingles raising the hairs on the back of my arm. I could feel my eyes going from hazel to red as Aries fought for control. “I am Bishop Monroe. Nice to meet you.”

I was knocked for stupid for a hot minute as I watched the chocolate god battle with his emotions and control over his wolf. I watched his eyes go from red to hazel like a f.ucking light switch. “Red eyes instead of black interesting” Opal said. I turned my attention to Daniel, giving him the head signal that he could go. Their bags would be brought up to their rooms by omegas. Even though I was in an existential crisis, I made myself walk towards them.
“Like what the f***k do I do with a mate at this point in my life.” “you climb that chocolate mountain and conquer it” “you’re not helping Opal’ “I never said I would help” “remember what happened last time” “that was a no good rogue this here is ALL pack wolf and by the looks of it he definitely is packing” “get your head in the game Opal he’ll probably want to be alpha and try to make us be the good little Luna” “not going to happen but at the very least we can go mountain climbing before rejecting him”
I just shook my head as I walked down to my mate and introduced myself. “Hello, I am Alpha Cj Romero” I said as I offered my hand. He accepted the handshake, the tingles and electricity going up my arm and landing in my heart. I didn’t want to let go but when he answered and told me his name was Bishop Monroe, I almost came in my panties right then and there, f***k moist I was wet as f***k. His voice was so deep and smooth. It took all my strength to turn to Nola and the rest of them to get through introductions.
“To my left is my Beta Magnolia Daye, This Is Derrick Vonn a bear shifter and Elder of the pack, to his right is Martha Chen the high priestess of the pack’s coven and another Elder and finally to Derricks left is Antonio Daye former beta and now Pack elder.” “Hello”, my mate said he motioned to his companion to his right. “This is Thomas Drummond my friend and assistant.” “Well, if you follow us. We can talk better in the conference room.” I led them through the packhouse into the conference room on the first floor. “B.itch everyone can smell you, what the f***k is going on. The tension between you and that yummy piece of chocolate is f.ucking tangible” nola mind linked me. “Back the f***k off Nola” Opal and I growled through the link at Nola. Causing her to give me a bombastic side eye as we walked. “No really what the f***k is going on Cj this is not like you” “he’s my f.ucking mate Nola” WHAT!!!!!! She screamed out loud just as we made it to the conference room. “Not now Nola” I whispered yelled at her through clenched teeth. I motioned for everyone to take seats and turned to the omega to get some refreshments in the room. As we took our seats, I could still see the inner turmoil going on in my mates’ eyes. So, I decided to tackle the big a.ss elephant in the room.
“So, Mr. Monroe” “you can call me Bishop” my mate said. I gulped slightly flustered by his voice but went on “Bishop as you noticed by now Desert moon is not a normal pack. We are a pack comprised of wolves, bears and witches.” “But how did you get this past the world council” “well we didn’t ask for permission one, two by the time they noticed it was too late to do anything about it we were already entrenched in each other’s life’s people had found their mates and a whole host of hybrid offspring had already been made. So, the council decided not to do anything about us and just let us live our lives in relative peace. Only dropping by every so often to make sure we are adhering to the rules they set for us. We are the only pack of our kind that we know of” “I see” “I am the Alpha” I looked him right in the eyes as I said this letting my aura slip slightly trying to judge his reaction. “I am not playing alpha. I am not looking for a mate to take over so I can be a good little Luna. Chosen or otherwise, this is my birth right as my father’s only living heir” “understandable no arguments from me” he said with a lopsided grin gracing his handsome face. “Well as you are my goddess giving mate, I just wanted to make it clear that I won’t be stepping down as alpha.” There were gasps of shock as I made that statement, Papa D just looked at me all smug like, while Martha side eyed me and tony was stoic as normal. The most laughable expression was Bishop’s companion Thomas he had the shocked Pikachu face. “I am used to playing second fiddle to a pack alpha” I raised my eyebrow at that. He just smiled at me again. “Well, we can discuss us being mates and what that entails later right now I would like to go over the business plans time schedules and numbers with you and your companion. Afterwards dinner will be served in the dining hall” “I am fine with that.”
