Chapter 9: The Ghost of the Alpha
The air in the Alpha Pack’s grand ballroom didn't just break; it shredded.
Through the Void-Drop, Gaia, Kenjiro, and Alaric materialized in a swirl of shadows and frost. Gaia was no longer the girl in a moss-green sweater. Her magic had woven a gown of living shadow and silver moonlight, clinging to her bronze-toned skin like a second layer of armor. Her dark ringlets were a wild, curly crown, and her amber eyes burned with a lethal, ancient light.
To her left, Kenjiro stood in a sleek, black combat suit, his electric amber eyes scanning the room for the "Hidden Ally" who had suddenly gone silent. To her right, Alaric was a wall of royal ice, his whirlpool eyes fixed on the throne at the end of the hall.
The Father’s Face-off: Recognition and Greed
Sitting on the throne was Alpha Julian Solano. He didn't stand. He didn't cheer. He looked at Gaia with a detached, clinical coldness that was more terrifying than a roar.
"You've grown," Julian said, his voice a jagged rasp. "The Temple's energy suits you. It makes you look like a weapon worth keeping."
Gaia felt a flash of a memory hit her—a younger Julian, laughing as he swung a four-year-old Gaia in the air, calling her his 'Little Seed.' But that man was gone. The power of the First Immortal Alpha—a title he had chased for decades—had consumed him. He didn't see a daughter; he saw a battery.I am not your weapon, Julian," Gaia spat, her voice vibrating with the Triad-bond.
"I am your replacement."
Julian’s eyes flared with a sick, hungry greed. "You owe me this, Gaia. I gave you life. I protected you just long enough for that Seal to wake up. It is your duty to sacrifice that power so your father can become eternal. Family is just the soil that feeds the Alpha."
The Secret Brother: The Second Heir
From behind the throne, a young man stepped out. He looked enough like Gaia to be her twin—same bronze skin, same curly hair, but his eyes were a hollow, haunted gray.
"Meet Malachi," Julian sneered. "Your brother. The one I didn't reject. The one who understands that power is the only thing that matters."
Gaia’s heart shattered. She looked at Malachi, seeing the same "recognition" in his eyes, but it was buried under a layer of mind-control and fear. He was the brother she never knew, the one Julian had kept as a "Spare" in case Gaia failed.
The Betrayal Hook: The Spy in the Ranks
Suddenly, the "Hidden Ally" who had led them here—a girl named Lyra—stepped forward, but she didn't stand with Gaia. She stood with Julian.
"I'm sorry, Alaric," Lyra whispered, her eyes meeting the Lycan Prince's. "But the High Council offered my family a place in the New World. They want the hybrid dead, and they want you back on the throne."
The betrayal hit the room like a physical blow. The Alpha Pack began to circle them, their claws extending, their growls filling the ballroom.
The Steamy Defiance: The Unit Stands
Gaia felt the fear of her mates through the Mark of the Triad. She felt Alaric’s cold panic and Kenji’s burning rage. She reached out, her hands finding theirs, her fingers interlocking.
The air between the three of them grew heavy and steamy, a physical manifestation of their unbreakable bond. Gaia leaned her head back, her ringlets brushing against Alaric’s shoulder, while her body pressed into Kenji’s side.
"You think betrayal can break us?" Gaia whispered, her voice amplified by the Temple’s magic. "You think my father’s greed can outlast my Kings' loyalty?"
She looked at Julian, her gaze detached and cold. "You asked for a sacrifice, Father. Here it is."
She raised her marked arm, the Seal glowing with a blinding, iridescent light that combined the Void, the Frost, and the Earth. The ballroom floor began to c***k as the First Hybrid Temple ruins beneath the pack house responded to its Queen.
"Tonight, the Alpha line dies," Gaia roared. "And the Triad rises."
