The call

1123 Words
*Dylan* I am in the kitchen helping with dinnerand the scent of sautéed onions fills the air when my phone buzzes on the counter. I glance at the screen. It’s LZ, and I pick up the call, wondering why he is calling… I know the guys had some club buisness. “Dylan! You need to come,” LZ’s voice crackles through the line, urgent and frantic. “It’s Tommy. He’s been stabbed.” My heart drops as the words hang in the air, heavy and suffocating. “What? What do you mean he’s been stabbed?” I can barely comprehend what I’m hearing. “We were ambushed by the Wraith Riders. Tommy got hurt pretty bad as one of them jumped him with a knife. Zac has him, they’re on their way to the hospital now. You might want to get there.” Panic surges through me. “Where are they? Which hospital?” “St. Mary’s. Dylan, you need to hurry… he lost a lot of blood.” Before I can respond, I’m already racing out the door, adrenaline coursing through my veins. I don’t even think about the consequences; all that matters is getting to Tommy. I hop on my dad’s spare bike, the engine rumbling to life beneath me, and I peel out onto the road, my heart pounding in sync with the roar of the engine. The streets blur past me as I navigate through the chaos of the city, my thoughts a jumbled mess of fear and determination. I can’t shake the images of Tommy's smile, the way he makes me laugh, the warmth of his presence. I need him to be okay. As I approach St. Mary’s Hospital, the reality of the situation sinks in. The parking lot is crowded, and I dart into a spot, throwing the bike into neutral before I rush inside. The fluorescent lights feel harsh, almost blinding, as I make my way to the reception. “Excuse me!” I call out, my voice breathless. “I’m looking for Tommy Hayes. He was brought in… ” The receptionist looks up, her expression shifting from indifferent to concerned. “He’s in surgery. You’ll need to wait.” My stomach sinks. “Surgery? How bad is it?” “I can’t give you any information. You’ll have to wait for the doctor to update you,” she replies, her voice steady but lacking empathy. Frustration bubbles inside me, but I swallow it down. “Can you at least tell me where I can find Zac? The guy who brought him in.” “Waiting room is down the hall to your left,” she says, pointing. I nod, my legs moving almost on autopilot as I rush toward the waiting room. The fluorescent lights flicker overhead, and I can feel my heart racing, each beat echoing the fear clawing at my insides. When I reach the waiting room, I spot Zac pacing like a caged animal, his hands shoved deep into his pockets, and the worry etched into his face sends another wave of dread crashing over me. “Zac!” I call, rushing over to him. “What happened?” He spins around, his expression shitting from anger to worry. “Dylan! I’m glad you’re here.” He runs a hand through his hair, clearly agitated. “Tommy was attacked by one of the damn Wraith Riders. He… he got stabbed in a moment of… I guess he was distracted.” “Was it bad?” I ask, trying to keep my voice steady, but the tremor betrays me. Zac shakes his head, his eyes darkening. “He lost a lot of blood. They rushed him into surgery right away. I don’t know anything else.” The words hit me like a punch to the gut. “He’s going to be okay, right? He has to be.” Zac looks at me, his expression hardening. “I don’t know, Dylan. I just hope he pulls through.” I feel the tears welling up, hot against my cheeks, but I refuse to let them fall. I can’t break down now. “Where’s the doctor? We need to get an update.” “Still waiting,” Zac replies, his voice strained. “I just… I can’t believe this is happening… f**k, he should have seen it… we should have seen it.” I nod, feeling the weight of dread settle over us. The minutes stretch into an eternity, each tick of the clock echoing in my mind. I can’t shake the image of Tommy lying there, bleeding, fighting for his life. Suddenly, the waiting room doors swing open, and a doctor steps in, his face serious but not panicked. “Family of Tommy Hayes?” he calls out, and I spring to my feet, my heart racing. “That’s us!” I exclaim, pushing past a couple of worried families to reach him. “Tommy is stable now,” he says, and I feel a rush of relief wash over me. “He lost a significant amount of blood, but we were able to stop the bleeding. He is out of immediate danger, but he will need time to recover.” “Can we see him?” I ask, my voice trembling with urgency. The doctor hesitates, then nods. “You can see him for a few minutes, but he’s still unconscious. You need to be quiet.” “Thank you,” I whisper, gratitude flooding through me. As we follow the doctor down the sterile hallway, my heart pounds in my chest. I need to see him. I need to tell him I’m here, that he’s not alone. The doctor leads us into a dimly lit room, and my breath catches in my throat at the sight of Tommy lying on the bed, pale and still. Tubes snake around his body, and my heart aches at the sight of him so vulnerable. I step closer, my hands trembling as I reach out to take his hand, feeling the warmth of his skin beneath my fingers. “Tommy,” I whisper, my voice breaking. “I’m here. You need to fight, okay? Just hold on for me.” I squeeze his hand tighter, willing him to wake up, to fight through this. Because I can’t imagine my life without him. He means so much to me, and I won’t let him go without a fight. As I stand there, the chaos of the outside world fades, and all that matters is the man lying before me, the one I’m determined to fight for. He’s worth it. I won’t lose him… not now, not ever, no matter what my father says about me dating a biker.
