*Tommy*
The engine of my bike roars beneath me as I ride through the familiar streets, the wind whipping against my face. But today, I’m not feeling the thrill of the ride. Instead, my mind is consumed with thoughts of Dylan. Her smile, the way her eyes sparkled when she laughed, and that devastating look of hurt she gave me when I pulled away.
I can’t shake the image from my head, and it’s driving me crazy. I should be focused on the club business we’re handling today, but all I can think about is her and the way her father defended her like a lion protecting its cub. I mean, it’s a good thing, just not for me personally.
“Hey, Tommy!” Zac’s voice breaks through my reverie. “You good back there?” He glances back at me, concern etched on his face.
“Yeah, just… thinking,” I reply, forcing a smile as I rev my engine to catch up with the others. But the truth is, I’m lost in a storm of emotions. I can’t afford to lose Dylan, but I also can’t risk everything I’ve worked for by crossing her father. The Iron Vipers are my family..: my only family. Without them, I’d be nothing.
As we pull into a rundown part of town for a meeting with one of our suppliers, the tension in the air thickens. The sun hangs high, casting harsh shadows on the cracked pavement, and I can feel the weight of our surroundings pressing against me. Tom leads the way, and I trail behind, trying to shake off the unease creeping up my spine.
Just as we dismount our bikes, the atmosphere shifts. I catch sight of a group of men leaning against an old building, their leather jackets emblazoned with a menacing insignia: The Wraith Riders. My stomach drops. These are not just rival gang members; they’re the worst kind… violent, unpredictable, and ready to throw down at the drop of a hat.
“Stay alert,” Nick mutters, his voice low and serious. I nod, but my heart races, each beat a reminder of how much I have to lose.
The Wraith Riders spot us, and I can feel their gazes sharpening like knives, assessing us for weakness. Have they been waiting for us, or did they just happen to be here?
My instincts scream at me to keep my guard up, but my mind is still tangled in thoughts of Dylan, and I can’t shake the feeling that I’m not fully present. I glance around, looking for a distraction, but my eyes are drawn back to the Wraiths.
“Tom, you think we should turn back?” I ask, trying to keep my voice steady despite the knot tightening in my stomach. I can’t let the guys see how rattled I am.
But Tom shakes his head, his jaw set in determination. “We came here for a reason. We’re not backing down. We can’t let those i***t run us off our turf.”
As we approach the Wraith Riders, my heart pounds in my chest, I do not like violence, and this smells of a confrontation. The leader, a tall guy with a scar running down his face, steps forward, a cruel smile playing on his lips. “Well, if it isn’t the rusty snakes. What brings you to our neck of the woods?”
I can hear the mockery in his voice, and my blood runs cold. I’m not sure what’s about to happen, but I can feel the tension in the air, thick enough to cut.
“Business,” Tom replies, his tone clipped. “We’re here to see if our shipment is ready. Also this is our woods, so please fly off.”
“Oh, we’ve got something for you,” the leader sneers, his gaze flicking to one of his men. “But you might not like it.”
Just then, everything goes into slow motion. I see the glint of metal… a knife… but not before it’s too late. The world narrows to that single moment as the Wraith Rider lunges at me, and finally instinct kicks in. I sidestep, but not fast enough. The blade slices across my side, pain exploding like fire through my body. I gasp, the air rushing from my lungs as I stagger back, clutching my wound.
“Tommy!” Zac shouts, his voice filled with panic, but the chaos unfolds around me like a whirlwind. The world becomes a blur of fists and shouts as my brothers leap into action, ready to defend me.
I can feel the warmth of blood seeping through my fingers as I press down hard on my side, trying to stem the flow. But the pain is overwhelming, and I’m losing focus. I can hear the sounds of fists meeting flesh, the roar of engines, and the adrenaline surging through my veins, but all I can think about is Dylan.
“Get him out of here!” Tom’s voice is fierce, cutting through the chaos. I feel a grip on my shoulder, and it’s Zac, pulling me back toward the bikes. “We need to get you to the hospital, man.”
I shake my head, the world spinning. “No, we can’t leave them,” I can’t abandon my brothers. They’re fighting for me, and the last thing I want is to be a burden.
“Shut up, Tommy!” Zac snaps, his eyes frantic. “You’re bleeding out. They will handle this. Just hold on.”
I feel my legs weaken, the pain intensifying, and I start to sway. My vision blurs, but I force myself to stay conscious. I can’t let my brothers down, not now. Not when Dylan is waiting for me to come back.
“Dylan…” I murmur, my voice barely audible above the chaos. I can see her face in my mind… the warmth of her smile, the way her eyes light up when she’s happy. But all of that feels so far away now, slipping through my fingers like sand.
“Just hang on, Tommy,” Zac’s voice pierces through the haze, but I can feel the darkness creeping in. The last thing I see before everything fades is the furious clash between the Iron Vipers and the Wraith Riders, and the haunting realization that I might not make it back to her.
I’m losing consciousness, but I cling to the hope that I’ll fight my way back to Dylan. Because if I don’t, I might lose everything that matters.
