Senator Amapiki started as a journalist. He founded Jogu Media, a digital-first news platform that gained popularity. Within 3 years, Jogu Media acquired some newspapers and dominated social media.
With the financial muscles of Lebari Tor, Amapiki entered politics and climbed to become a senator.Tor poured millions into his Senate race, funding ads, rallies, and grassroots efforts.
Tor saw potentials in Amapiki's charisma and progressive appeal, viewing him as a vessel for advancing his agenda of controlling Rivers state.
While Amapiki remained popular for his innovation focused policies, civil right groups questioned whether he has become a puppet of the billionaire Tor. The billionaire ’s companies directly benefited from Amapiki’s policies.
Amapiki was running for governor with the backing of Lebari. Lebari's financial and political influence had been instrumental in his rise, making him an irreplaceable ally. His campaign dominated headlines, silencing dissent and rallying support. With the murder of Lebari’s daughter, Amapiki has been worried knowing this could cost him everything.
He knew the scandal will derail his momentum. His team immediately convened a crisis meeting. They debated whether to issue a public statement expressing condolences or to remain silent. They finally decided to deflect attention by blaming the tragedy on opposition factions opposed to Lebari’s philanthropy.
Amapiki decided that publicly he will call for justice for Vera and will offer to fund initiatives in her honor. What he does not know was that Santos Mbolo, a celebrated investigative journalist in Port Harcourt was very much interested in the murder case. Santos name to politicians smells trouble.
Lebari Tor sat in his office at the top floor of his three story company building in Trans Amadi, staring out at th city. His activities are now shrouded in secrecy. His daughter, Vera, has been murdered and he keeps remembering the laughter, warmth, and joy she brought into his life. All these has gone just like that, leaving behind a void that nothing can fill at the moment. Condolence messages keep pouring in including uncountable visitors.
His office was clean with polished glass windows,
Upholstery chairs and pictures of himself , that of the governor of Rivers State and the President of Nigeria hanging on the white wall.. He turned to look at a security man who came to announce the arrival of visitors.
A man and a woman stepped into the office. He had given instructions to his security to immediately let Officer Mark in by 2pm. The man was tall in his early forties, dressed in a suit.. The other was no-nonsense looking female.
Sir Lebari ” Mark began, extending a hand, “ I am Police Superintendent Mark Tunde, and this is my partner, Superintendent Jane.”
Lebari shook their hands and asked them to sit.
"Please I'm happy that you are here,” he said. “ How far? How is your investigation going ?"
Mark: To be honest with you Sir this case is going to be a tough one that can get heads rolling.
Lebari: I don't care how many heads that will roll.My daughter has been killed. I need the killers and I need it done quickly.
Jane: We’re still putting twos and twos together. But we need to ask you some questions about Vera's life, her friends, her routines, and if anyone might’ve had a reason to harm her.
Lebari stared stangely at them. “ I don't know anything about my daughter's friends or lifestyle. I have businesses to run, meetings to attend.. I am too busy to notice minor things such as my daughter's friends or lifestyle. She was a good girl, very kind. I dont think she had any enemies.”
Mark: What about you, Sir Lebari? You are into big business and politics. I have read your file. Do you think your business or political enemies have targeted your daughter to get at you?
Lebari looked at the officers in anger. Ofcourse they should know he should have enemies. As owner of a multi billion naira business empire, he should have enemies. Is it that they were here to waste his time asking silly questions. If they are too lazy to find the killer, he sure would. And when he does, he will sure crush them and crush them good.
Lebari: A man like me must have enemies.
Mark: We need a list of anyone you’ve had quarrels with in the past one year ”
OK you will have it quick. I will ask my staff to compile the names and send to you tomorrow morning.
Ambrose the former pickpocket turned police officers sat in a bar opposite Lebari's company entrance. He remembered the day in Abuja that he was hired to spy on officer Mark Tunde. That day, his sharp, round face was a bit covered by his hat. He was dressed in a black shirt and white trouser and had gone to a hotel to wait for the person who has a mission for him. Aside his police job , he was a spy-for-hire with a flawless track record. A man came to the pool side were he was staying.
He slid a brown A4 envelope across the table. Ambrose picked it up, opened it. The envelope contained a photo of Superintendent Mark Tunde. It also has his dossier and his recent posting to Port Harcourt.
" That’s a top cop you have here. He is known for solving cases people see as impossible . Why do you want me to spy on him? Ambrose said.
My contact in Port Harcourt who doesn't want his identity to be known wants you to follow him, uncover his movements. My contact wants to know everything about him. The man said.
Ambrose: This is a risky job. The man is a cop, a top one . You will have to pay me heavily.
The man brought out another envelope. Ambrose opened it to find plenty dollar bills.
"My phone number is there. You will be conveying the informations to me and I will transfer to my contact. All your hotel , feeding and travelling expenses will be taken care of by me. Send your account details to my phone" The man said
And here he is in Port Harcourt monitoring Superintendent Mark.He observed him from Abuja to the Garden City to the Station at Moscow road to his hotel room apartment. He's been following him and the lady officer since then. When they left the company of Lebari Tor, he was at the nearby bar watching them. He pulled out his cell phone and put a call through.
