14;Lets talk

I was surprised when we got to my car and found him leaning against it. His hands were still in his pockets, and he looked lost in his own thoughts, completely unaware of our presence. My bodyguard, clearly irritated, started walking toward him, but I stopped him. “Give us some time. Don’t worry, I know him,” I said. He looked at me, unconvinced. “He is my friend. Trust me, he won’t hurt me,” I added, but he still hesitated. “Sir, I don’t think Mr. Chin would appreciate it if he found out I let you talk to a stranger. It’s not safe,” he replied. I understood his concern. If Mr. Chin found out, it would definitely not end well. “Can we just keep this between us? I want to talk to him. Will you help me?” I asked. He studied me for a moment before finally nodding. “But we need to move somewhere else, sir. This is outside the FG building. Mr. Shin could easily find out, and fans are always around here hoping to spot an artist. It could turn into a scene.” His reasoning made sense, and I felt relieved that he had agreed. “Take us somewhere quiet. Somewhere peaceful, with no people around,” I said. He nodded, and we walked toward the car. Axel still hadn’t moved. I wondered what he was thinking about because he hadn’t even noticed us talking. I had to tap him lightly to bring him back to reality. “Were you waiting for me?” I asked. He just stared at me, and I hated the way he looked at me like that because it made me lose focus. “Do you want to talk? This isn’t a safe place. I also want to talk to you. My bodyguard will take us somewhere better. Do you want to come?” I asked. He nodded. My bodyguard opened the door, and I let Axel get in first before following him. I couldn’t help but smile at the way he was dressed. He looked so effortlessly careless, as if nothing mattered to him. It didn’t even match the fact that he had just been inside the FG building. I wondered how he had gotten in. Who was he really? Was he someone connected to the company? If he was, why had I never heard of him? Or was he a part of a new boyband trainees? “Is your bodyguard kind?” he asked quietly. I nodded. His voice was so low that my bodyguard, who was focused on driving, didn’t hear him. “Good for me,” he said before leaning his head on my shoulder and closing his eyes. He looked exhausted, like he hadn’t slept properly in days. Shaun must have noticed because he shot me a sharp look through the rearview mirror. It was the kind of look that said he was about to stop the car if I didn’t explain. I quickly assured him it was fine. It was getting dark when the car finally stopped. I looked outside and saw an open amusement park. It was quiet inside, though the sidewalks nearby still had people passing by. It was perfect. “You’ll have to stay here, Shaun. I want to talk to him, and we won’t go far. You’ll still be able to see us,” I said. I gently woke Axel, even though I felt bad doing it because he had seemed so comfortable. We stepped out of the car, and I led the way toward the park. We walked slowly since he didn’t seem to be in any hurry. “It’s already night. Do you still need to wear your mask?” I asked. He didn’t respond. We walked side by side, and I realized I would have to get used to talking to myself when I was with him. He rarely replied. He spotted a bench and quickly sat down. I followed and sat beside him. “The stars look beautiful tonight,” I said, trying to start a conversation. He tilted his head up and looked at them but said nothing. Then he leaned on my shoulder again. “Why were you waiting for me? Did you want to talk about something?” I asked after a moment. “I wanted to sleep,” he said simply. I waited, expecting him to continue, but he didn’t. “You could have gone home. It would have been more comfortable,” I said, but he stayed silent. “So, about Shin… we are together now. I followed your advice and thought maybe I should give it a try,” I added. I didn’t know why I told him that. I just felt like he should know. “He is perfect for you,” he said quietly. “I know you like me, but it’s not worth it. I’m not good enough, and I might end up destroying you. I wish I could be like him. I heard you haven’t finished your song yet. I wanted to apologize because I took up the time you were supposed to use for that. And… thank you for that day.” He stood up suddenly. I quickly followed him before he could walk too far. “Why are you leaving like that? Are you okay?” I asked. “Let’s stop being friends,” he said without looking at me. “Don’t call or text me. I have a lot on my mind, and I don’t need distractions.” He walked away. This time, I didn’t stop him. His voice had been calm, but firm. I didn’t understand him at all. One moment he felt close, and the next he pushed me away like I meant nothing. I watched him until he disappeared from sight. When I could no longer see him, I turned back and returned to the car. Shaun didn’t say anything as he drove me back to the dorm. Right now, all I needed was beer.
