Bandung City, same day.Bambang Wisanggeni's residence.
****
Wisanggeni was seen in a hurry to enter his residence. His son Adi and his daughter Ratih followed behind him. They had just returned from congregational Asrhar prayers at the mosque. Wisanggeni immediately looked for his wife, Magdalena. While Adi and Ratih went straight to their respective rooms.
"Mom! Mommy!"
Wisanggeni shouted as he circled the house. He opened the rooms, then into the kitchen but his wife was nowhere to be found. Finally, Wisanggeni opened the back door. As expected, Magdalena was in the backyard busy with her favorite flowers. Magdalena did not go to the mosque because she had a different faith. Magdalena is an Orthodox Christian from Kupang. They met when Wisanggeni was on duty there.
Wisanggeni approached his wife with a worried face, there was anger that he tried to suppress. Magdalena realized that her husband was worried and immediately left her job and greeted him.
"Dad's back, can I make you some tea, Dad?"
"I wasn't looking for you for tea," said Wisanggeni curtly. Magdalene smiled faintly and tried to process what was really going on. Wisanggeni is indeed a very hard and firm person. But also a frank and kind person. Magdalene was sure that she had made a mistake.
"Pa, please tell me what's wrong mom?" she said quietly, clearly Magdalena was very careful when she spoke.
"Why doesn't Nyai Sapu Jagat go to the mosque for congregation?" Instead of answering Magdalena's question, Wisanggeni asked again. "I didn't see him at home either. I told you many times not to treat him like your employee!” It was clear that Wisanggeni was angry. For matters of prayer and congregation, Wisanggeni is non-negotiable.
According to him, morality and prayer are the most important things in life. Whoever prays is right, his morals must be right. Plus his house is inhabited by two different faiths. According to him, it was the only way to take care of his younger brother's sons and daughters who were entrusted to him. That's why he would be very angry if anyone tried to mess with this. He would never give the three and those around him a chance to bid for any reason.
Magdalene looked stunned for a moment, then rushed into the house without saying a word. Go straight to the phone sitting in the middle of the room. Magdalena called her office, but the person she expected to answer the phone wasn't there. The assistant who answered.
"Asih, why are you answering the phone, where's your boss?"
"Sorry ma'am. Neng Cantik is out of town, there was a sudden visit and it was very important.” After receiving an answer from Asih, Magdalena hung up the phone without asking anything else. Wisanggeni who was standing beside Magdalena stared intently, waiting for an answer.
"He's out of town Pa, sudden event," Magdalene explained.
"Out of town where?"
Magdalena were asked could not answer because she did not ask Asih. Wisangeni, immediately redialing the phone beside him.
"Yes ma'am, is there anything I can help you with?" Asih answered on the other side.
"I'm, Asih."
"I... yes sir," Asih's voice sounded nervous.
"Your Neng Cantik is out of town?"
"Yes sir, that's right." Asih's voice is calmer.
"Where's out of town?"
Asih explained the hamlets, villages, sub-districts in the Ciamis City area.
“You mean the nearest hamlet bordering the Forest of Prohibition?”
"Yes sir, that's right."
"Okay Asih. Thank you."
Wisanggeni hung up the phone and walked back and forth. For some reason his heart was not calm when he heard about the Forbidden Forest. He didn't speak a word. Constantly busy with his own thoughts while constantly pacing the living room.
From the look on his face, it was clear that Wisanggeni was frantic. "Gusti, I hope my hunch is wrong," he said in a half-whisper. Magdalene who was also there did not dare to say anything. She understands very well that her husband is not someone who can be interrupted in a situation like this. Moreover, seeing her husband's behavior after hanging up the phone made Magdalena even more silent. He's just biased waiting. Finally Wisanggeni decided to look after his nephew.
Before leaving Wisanggeni knocked on Adi's door and said, "make sure your sister goes to the mosque for Maghrib and Isha prayers!" Papa has to leave for a moment, if it's time for the fajar prayer Papa doesn't come back then you also have to make sure your sister also goes to the mosque for the Fajar prayer!" "Okay, Dad," Adi answered briefly.
After that Wisanggeni whispered something into Adi's ear. His son nodded emphatically. The next second Wisanggeni left Adi's room and said goodbye to Magdalena, ten minutes later a black sedan came out of the garage. Drove slowly out of the residential area towards the main road. It was almost midnight when the black sedan entered the Forbidden Forest area. Continue to enter the village mentioned by Asih. Before leaving, Wisanggeni had asked for details of the contact person there.
Wisanggeni went straight to the intended address. The owner of the house had already opened the door before Wisanggeni knocked on the door. After explaining who he was, finally Wisanggeni was invited in.
However, Wisanggeni politely refused because he was reluctant to interfere any longer. Wisanggeni immediately said goodbye when he learned that his nephew had left the village since this afternoon. His hunch grew stronger that something had happened to his nephew. Wisanggeni closed his eyes trying to search with his inner eyes but everything was dark. He couldn't see anything. There is no other way, Wisanggeni must find his nephew and be patient with his limitations.
His car drove slowly out of the hamlet onto the asphalt of the main road in the Prohibition Forest area. For some reason his hunch was that his nephew was in this forest and was in trouble. The car is still moving slowly, Wisanggeni really hopes to see his nephew carrying his shoes, because that is what he often sees when his nephew comes home from work in the afternoon before Ashar. Lips smile wryly, eyeballs hold deep sorrow. There is regret in the heart. The regret that he couldn't get his nephew to break the gap between him and his nephew. His younger brother educated his nephew with saklek(1) Javanese manners, Wisanggeni hated this very much. This is what makes his nephew work hard even though all his needs have been met. In addition, his nephew also refused to go to formal school. This frustrated Wisanggeni. He keeps cursing himself.
Wisanggeni suddenly braked the car when suddenly he saw something passing rolling on the asphalt and then turning to the edge right in front of him. "It's like someone's body?" he thought breathlessly. Wisanggeni was very scared and shocked because he was daydreaming at the time, so that what passed before him became a terrible shock. Without thinking Wisanggeni immediately got out of the car and confirmed what he saw. Wisanggeni did not turn off the car engine because it needed lighting. His steps traced to the place where what he thought was a human body rolled and turned. Wisanggeni was even more shocked by what he saw. He could faintly see the human body curled up under the Mahogany Tree.
The light from the car's headlights does not point directly at the side of the road but is bright enough to confirm that it is a human body. Wisanggeni rushed to the body and turned it over. His eyes looked confused and disbelieving. His legs immediately went limp and fell to the ground on his knees as the body turned perfectly.
