Sofia's POV.
Maybe I should've been honest when he told me he had to leave.
I knew he'd be stunned to hear someone that was in his life for just s*x, confess that she wanted him to stay just a little longer, but that was the truth.
I didn't want that moment.
I didn't know how mucho time had gone, but I was missing him already. I'd done everything to distract myself, but they all turned out as a waste of time when everything literally reminded me of him.
The way my brain immediately went numb and incapable of making logical decisions still remained a myth to me.
The way he took his time to tongue-f**k me before using his meat to destroy me and make me fall deeper in love with him...
No. I didn't love him.
I didn't have the right to.
I was being paid to sleep with a man who was about to get married to a influential hothead. Except I was willing to ruin what was left of my life, I couldn't dare fall in love with him.
If only there was a parallel world were, my fantasies could be my reality. Where he'd see me for more than just a s*x toy.
Where we could be devoid of all this chaos and just have each other to ourselves like we did earlier this morning...
"If you slice that onion one more time, it'll count as grated onions."
That familiar voice got me out of my reverie and turned back to see Mrs. Grossi standing behind me with a calm look.
"I... I didn't know you were standing there. How long have you been in the kitchen?"
"Long enough to watch you smile mindlessly on default, even with onion-induced tears falling down your eyes."
I touched my face to realize it was wet.
Shit I was so deep in my head, I didn't know I was crying.
Look what Enzo had turned me to.
"I'm sorry."
"Why are you apologizing?"
"You must've wanted to get something, and I was standing in your way. Plus... You must've been worried that I didn't come back to relay Enzo's response about dinner last night."
"First of all, I just came in to see how you were doing. I wanted to ask what you wanted to eat, but you were already making something for yourself. And about last night..."
I saw a knowing smile grow on her face.
"I'm not a baby. It was obvious from downstairs that Enzo was starving for something different."
I could feel my face fluster in embarrassment from her tease.
I didn't know I was that loud.
"How was your head? Does it still hurt?"
She smiled, knowing that I was trying to change the subject.
"It's healed already. There's no need to worry about it my dear. It's healed already."
"I'm still surprised that you didn't want us to report it to Enzo. You know he would've given Isabella hell for hurting his elderly help."
"Enzo has more than enough on his mind. I don't want to be the one to come in between the both of them."
"Do you think he's making the right choice marrying her?", I suddenly blurted.
She stopped in her tracks.
I was supposed to stop, but I couldn't help it.
"Look I know it's not in my place to ask questions like that, but I'm only looking out for him. As my client, of course. Enzo already has too much to deal with. He shouldn't have to give him someone that's going to add to his stress, don't you think?"
"You're right", she sighed. "If I had a say, I would do everything to keep Enzo away from the brat, especially when he obviously has a gem in his life already..."
Who was the gem?
Me?
Was she saying that I was good for him?
"... but there's more to the relationship than you think. It's something... Way bigger than us. So we have no choice but to watch fate play out."
She went over to the refrigerator, but she stopped again.
"Are you looking out for Enzo as your client? Or something more?"
I opened my mouth to figure out a lie, my throat dried up immediately.
I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. Grateful for the interruption, I quickly fetched it out of my pocket.
It was a message from an unknown number.
"Meet me at the South End in the next one hour. I want to see your pretty face."
My confusion slowly grew into a childish grin.
This was the most romantic Enzo ever been to me. Inviting me to dinner with an unknown number.
It turned out I wasn't the only one who still miss that company early this morning.
"I'm guessing that's Enzo?"
My smile reduced immediately remembering that Mrs. Grossi was in the room with me.
"Well, yes... No, but kinda. I.. I need to leave."
"Okay, then. Go have fun. I'll finish the cooking for you", she offered.
I thanked her and rushed into my room, and picked the best dress I could get from my scanty wardrobe.
I put on some fragrance and combed my hair to make sure I looked my best.
Even though he was my man...
Even though the nature of my job vehemently prohibited me from having feelings, I was genuinely excited to see Enzo.
I was soon out of the mansion and got into a cab to take me to the South End.
I noticed the driver's discomfort when I mentioned the address, but I didn't put much thought.
After a long journey, I paid and got out of the cab, only to find myself in an alleyway.
My brows creased in anger.
The driver must've seen that I was new to the city, so he decided to scam me.
I sighed and got out my phone to call the unknown number that Enzo used to text me, but I heard a ringtone from behind me.
"If it isn't the b***h who can't keep her hands to herself
