Chapter 42 I awake to darkness and silence. I’m not sure where I am. Then it’s the sounds that answer my confusion and I remember: New York City. Samantha and I are still on London time, so this early rising means no one is awake yet. I hear a coffee grinder and catch the aroma of coffee beans drifting from the kitchen. Samantha moves almost silently down the hall, closing the door behind her before she turns on the light. She picks me up from my jet-lagged exhaustion, settles into her reading chair and places her coffee a safe distance away. Her fingertips are soft as they glide over my letters.
