'So what did it feel like?',Sarah was always direct with questions. Especially questions Willow didn't want to think about. She shrugged and changed the subject. 'Have you even packed yet?'. 'Yes, no, I don't know. Too busy thinking on you and Hunter. No doubt he is good looking. He's a whole world of trouble too'.
'I wish you could stay longer, you would keep my feet on the ground', Willow sighed. 'I also carry a big stick for beating boys away from my naive best friend. You should of seen the way he was looking at you, like he could eat you up in one bite',she shuddered. 'Get your head out of the clouds girl, help me pack. I will be back before you know it. I'm only backpacking for three months and I will be back'.
Sarah was right as always. So what if even though the kiss was short and gentle, it had made her feel things she had never felt before. It didn't mean anything. Probably just doing a stupid bet anyway. Get a rise out of the freak time. Pull a weirdo day or something.
Hunter wasn't one of us, he didn't belong to my crowd. Any number of reasons could get you cast out in this town. If you wore the wrong stuff or spoke differently. If you were not the norm. If you were not the norm, and there was no way you could be,you stayed together.
Sarah would be going tomorrow morning to new places. The person who keeps me grounded gone. Without her here, a steel string had been cut and left me floundering. As though she would just float away. Away from small town life.
We had talked about going together, but time passed quickly and Willow wasn't ready. Soon though thought Sarah, she is losing that naivety. Soon Willow would become.
