I struggle to pull my rainbow top on over my wet skin, but I eventually get it on. I am buttoning the strap of the dungarees on when Matt grabs my arm.
"Kelsey, what text are you talking about? You can't just tell me that and not explain."
"Last night. 'Babe I miss u', " I mutter sarcastically.
Matt stares at me for a few seconds before nodding his head. "That's why you were mad at me?"
I shrug his hand off and walk away from him. "It doesn't matter. It was just a kiss. Please let's not be stupid about this. I don't even know why you kissed me."
Matt jogs to keep up with me, with his clothes in hand. "I don't know either. But I really honestly like spending time with you Kelsey. I wish that you'd just see that. Why can't you just accept that we're just two teenagers that are having an amazing summer? I don't have to deal with my dad and you don't have to deal with your brother. I just wanted to kiss you. It felt good, didn't it?"
His blue-grey eyes are full of honesty and it melts me on the insides. But I still have one more problem with this whole situation.
"So, who called you babe? You don't have to tell me, but if we're going to keep on doing what we're doing then, I want to know. I don't want to be in between you and anyone else," I say, softly.
Matt grabs me by the shoulders and gives me a vigorously, surprising kiss that leaves me breathless when he pulls away.
"What was that for?"
He shrugs. "Just because. Anyway, the one that texted me was a girl that wanted to hook up before the summer and I said no. You should have just asked me, Kelsey."
I feel myself blushing for being so stupid. "I didn't want to."
Matt laughs. "And it led you to make assumptions, but here, if you want to check for yourself then go ahead. I won't keep anything from you," he reaches into his jeans pocket and hands me his phone.
"What?" I ask.
"Check it, " he says. "You can have access to it whenever you want."
I laugh nervously. "I don't think I should be doing that."
Matt rolls his eyes. "Okay. At least add your number on my phone."
Biting down on my bottom lip, I swipe his phone open, go into the keypad and type my number in.
"And put your contact id as Bae, "Matt instructs.
"Bae is stupid," I say with a cringe.
He grins. "It's not. It's cute. We're planning ahead for the future."
I don't type in Bae, because it's silly. I hand him back his phone.
Matt types up something on his phone, before slipping it back into his jeans pocket. "Now, we can talk all night."
"Matt, there is only so much of you I can handle for one day," I tell him jokingly and he gives me a pretentious look of hurt.
"Wanna do something?" he asks taking my hand in his and lacing his fingers through it.
Just being this close to him, makes my heart race a little bit faster.
"Like what?" I ask.
He winks at me. "Well, it's nothing too fun, because this small town will never be much fun, but it's a surprise. I googled it. Don't expect too much."
"Okay," I say.
As the sun sets low, beyond the horizon, Matt and I walk hand in hand to the Jeep, completely unsure of what the hell we're doing playing a dangerous game.
