Chapter Twelve

611 Words
"It's no McDonald's, but I think it'll do," Matt says, handing me a monster-sized cup of heavenly chocolate ice-cream. It's crammed with M&M's, bits of chocolate chip cookie and other kinds of sweets. The good, indulgent types of sweets. We are sitting in the Jeep, outside of Yogurtland in the empty parking lot. The big beige ice-cream cone that sits on top of Yogurtland parlour,  illuminates in the dark evening approaching. It's probably the brightest thing that's miles away from town. The orange yolk of the sun settles low in the horizon as the speckles of stars come out to embrace the dusky sky. "It's great," I tell him. "And I got a little something else planned," he says, pulling out his phone. He goes into his Netflix and turns to me. "What's your favourite movie of all time?" I grin like a little girl. "I have two, actually." "What are they?" he asks. I take a deep breath. "Titanic and Pretty Woman." Matt groans. "Oh my God. What is up with you woman? Titanic? Really?" I sock him in the arm. "It's Leo DiCaprio." Matt shakes his head. "I don't want to know." I roll my eyes as he types something up. "I haven't watched Pretty Woman before," he says clicking on the movie. "It's with Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, " I tell him. "Not a hundred per cent sure I know who they are, but okay, let's watch it then." I raise an eyebrow. "It's a romance. Are you sure you want to watch it?" Matt clicks play, before giving me a quick peck on the cheek. "Pretty sure." The movie is as amazing as the million other times I've watched it. I zone out and forget that Matt is there because he falls asleep halfway through the movie. I repeat all my favourite lines of Julia Roberts. From the funniest in which Julia is asked if she liked the opera that she attended and she replied, saying that it was so good that she almost peed her pants. To one of the saddest lines, where Richard Gere tells Julia Roberts that he never treated her like a p********e and she told him that he just did. I find my eyes welling up with tears as the credits start rolling down the phone screen. I nudge Matt awake and be sits up and yawns. "I missed all the good parts, didn't I?" I quickly wipe away any remnants of tears and nod. "Yeah. You wouldn't have appreciated it anyway." Matt chuckled. "Probably. I would have just called it a cheesy romance." "You have no idea what a good movie is," I mutter as I pull out my phone and a switch it on. I have two missed calls. One from Daniel and one from Kylie. I realise I haven't talked to Kylie in a long time and I decide to text her to come over in two hours so that we can have a much-needed sleepover. "Hey, can I ask you to do something?" Matt asks as he starts up the Jeep. "Sure." I run my fingers through my hair and untangle the knots, before making a loose braid. Matt pulls out onto the quiet road. "You have the keys to this farmhouse, right?" "Yeah," I say, placing my legs up on the dashboard. "Can you maybe keep it for a little longer? I know that we're almost done here, but can you just keep it?" I drop my head back against the seat and turn to face him. "Mhmm. It depends." Matt reaches out and pokes me in the cheek. "Come on, I'm being serious, Kels." I smile. "Okay, fine. As long as it's not shady, Hudson." "Me, shady? You must be mistaken Flynn," he says and grins. That mischievous damn grin of his. Who knew that I'd come to like it so much?
