Chapter Six

1036 Words
"How much more ash could there be?" Matt asks in frustration as he sweeps out another black cloud of dust from the stone hearth. "Could you maybe stop spreading the dust everywhere? You're making more work for us," I mutter as I pull up an old stack of Seventeen magazines. "This was a bad idea," he says. "And playing video games with my brother was a better idea?" I ask. "No offence Kelsey, I like building up a sweat after a good workout and I'm definitely not talking about cleaning up a dusty cabin," Matt says. I find myself blushing again. "Why do have to make a s****l reference?" "Because I'm a guy. I like s*x and anything that has to do with it." "Oh my God. I'm done with this conversation," I say and walk out of the door. Matt follows me outside. "Finally. I'm starving. Please tell me we have something to eat." I go over to the jeep and grab my rucksack out before turning back to Matt. "Luckily we do," I tell him, and I pull out the two whole bagel sandwiches wrapped in paper towels. Our mixed berry sodas are warm, but it's better than drinking nothing on a blazing hot summers day. Matt grabs his black hoodie from the jeep and places it on the ground and then we sit down, close enough for our arms to be touching. I take small bites of my beef, cream cheese bagel, while Matt wolves his down in just minutes. The sun warms our skin and I catch myself staring at Matt more than once. I barely know him, but I do in away. He sleeps in a room across from mine back at home. He spends most of his nights at my house. Yet, I've only met properly him less than twenty-four hours ago. Matt, I realise has these light blue eye's. Greyish-bluish almost. It's oddly constructed. Sort of cat-like eyes. And his full lips are loutish. Not thin. He also has an elegant nose. Nothing too big or too wide. His hair falls across his forehead in a messy way and I feel like reaching out to touch it, but Matt suddenly looks up at me. Curiosity lies in those gunmetal blue eyes. "Tell me something about you," he says, picking up a blade of grass. "What would you like to know?" I ask, nervously. He shrugs and then lays back, with his arms behind, to support his head. "Anything that doesn't have to do with those ugly Uggs." I lay down against the flat of my stomach. "You're unbelievable." "Seriously, tell me why you're never around when I'm there. Where are you? I'm curious," he says. "I'm in my room." He looks over at me for a few seconds. "You're lying. How can that be?" I smile sheepishly. "Because according to Daniel's rules, I'm too lame to be around his friends. Even though none of you ever notices me." Matt sits up immediately. "First of all, that's a lie. I noticed you. And second, you're not lame." "You only noticed me because I was eating and you were creeping around the house late at night. And how do you know that I'm not lame?" I laugh. "Intuition," he says, after a pause. "And what are these rules that Daniel has for you? "Stupid stuff. Like, don't go to senior parties, don't talk to his friends, don't invade his personal space." Matt shakes his head. "No one should ever tell you what to do, even if it's own your brother." I nod and sit up a little, turning to face Matt. We're super close now and I can feel my heart beating fast-paced like a super train moving at high speed. "You have goosebumps," Matt says as he touches my arm. It's a light stroke, but it electrifies my skin. I feel the buzz travelling through my body and it's the good kind. My breath catches as Matt looks down at me. Even though we're both on the ground, I still feel intimidated by his broad shoulders and lengthy arms. "Your heart is beating fast," he whispers, and the comment is so corny that I begin to giggle- it sounds like an alien sound coming from deep within my belly. "You don't know that," I say. "But I'm right," he whispers again, right before he sits up and completely attacks me with his long fingers. He's tickling me uncontrollably and I'm laughing and kicking, because I hate it and love it. I love the feeling of his hands running across me. I love when he accidentally presses his palm against my thigh and suddenly everything is hot. Matt stops tickling me and instead pushes me down to the ground. It's easy because I don't resist. There's a rush of energy in me and I love it. "And now I have green ugg girl pinned beneath me," he says in a breathy tone. I roll my eyes on purpose and smirk. "You're like a child." "You rolled your eyes and smirked at me. That's a double offence, Miss Flynn." "What are you going to do about it?" I ask and bite my bottom lip daringly. It's like walking on thin ice and waiting for it to c***k. Matt watches every move as carefully as possible, before meeting my eyes once again. "I have an idea." Sometimes you just know when you're about to be kissed and this is one of those moments. I cringe inwardly thinking if this is going to be as good as I imagined it to be. If it's what I really want it to be. Matt leans forward and brushes his lips against my cheek and then he inches closer towards my lips. It's agonizingly slow, but he soon presses his lips against mine fully and I am captured by the amazing feeling. It's nothing complicated, but we move our lips together in sync. I follow his movements until he completely takes over and slides his tongue into my mouth. It's warm and it leaves a tingling feeling. I slip my hands around his shoulders and pull him down against me. The air is hot around us. Matt pulls away slightly and places soft kisses along my jaw before I'm pulling him back towards my mouth for more. Breaking the silence, my phone rings and we break apart, panting for air. I pull out my phone and look at the caller ID. It's Daniel. I feel the heat creep into my cheeks.
