Sebastian Leclair awoke to the soft hum of his home’s automated system as it eased open the blinds, flooding his bedroom with the pale light of dawn. He lay still for a moment, letting the silence stretch, his gaze fixed on the ceiling. The thought hit him again, the same thought that had been gnawing at him for weeks. In two weeks, he’d be a married man. The idea didn’t sit comfortably, no matter how much he tried to rationalize it. Their marriage was a transaction, plain and simple. Nothing real.
