I woke up in the middle of the night with the gentle light of the moon coming through the window. He was still by my side, his arm around me, keeping me close. The feeling of security and peace was indescribable. I looked at him, so serene while he slept, and felt a deep love fill my heart.
Gently, I slipped out of his embrace and sat on the edge of the bed, contemplating the scene. I didn't want to wake him, but he opened his eyes and smiled when he saw me.
“Hey, what are you doing awake?” he asked with a sleepy, husky voice.
“Just watching you,” I replied, smiling back. “You're so beautiful when you sleep.”
He laughed softly and got up, coming to my side.
“I'm beautiful all the time,” he said jokingly, and I laughed.
“Modest, as always,” I replied, joking back.
