Saturday morning dawned bright and early. Alice stirred awake in her bed as the sunlight peeped into her room from the open window. She reached for her phone that lay on her bedside drawer and picked it up to check the time. It was some minutes past six. ​Sheila had returned home around some minutes to midnight with a bottle of Magic Moment and they’d drunk into the night. Alice had expected to wake up with a hangover this morning, but when she woke and didn’t feel that familiar throbbing in her head that she normally felt whenever she drank, she figured happiness can make every type of pain be diminished.
