4: WHAT IS GOING ON?

1420 Words
When Alexander Sterling got home, he was not quite himself. He did not understand why Stephen did not come back to him as planned. He had waited at the point where he asked him to wait. He could not fathom why Stephen would have disobeyed him. Stephen must have an explanation for this mishap. “You have not been acting well, and I do not know why. Did you bring me here to humiliate me? I am supposed to be your guest, your date Alex! What is going on?” Lara explained, not understanding why Alex was neglecting her for no reason. “I do not know what answer to give to you, Lara. I am just busy in my head. I am calculating my next move,” Alex said. Lara sat on the bed hopelessly. She wished that when she came this time around Alex would be different. She felt she had sacrificed too much for this level of neglect by Alex. She was not a parasite. It just seemed that any time Alex was bored, he called her. “Alex, you are selfish. This is not how to treat a lady. What have I done to deserve this?” Lara asked, gathering her things. “How, Lara? We had a good time. I thought we had a good time,” Alex said as he bent over and kissed her. Lara’s body melted, she always wanted Alex’s attention, but Alex wanted more. He wanted more than a feeling. He wanted purpose, communion, and exposure. Lara was only providing togetherness and s*x, and she could not see it. This made Alex always tired of her, they could not converse about anything else than the way they felt. She kissed Alex back and in a matter of minutes they were entangled together. All through the period Alex was in Lara's arms, he was thinking about the simple lady he ran into at his product launch, Emma Heart. His mind could not think of anything else. He wondered what Emma was doing now. “Alex, I don’t think you are okay and ready for me. I also think it is wise we stop seeing each other,” said Lara as she pushed Alex off, who, without struggle, left her and went to the chair. “Please stop being so hasty. I just think that I am exhausted from all these meetings and engagements. You have to give me some time. Everything is not about s*x, my dear. I do care about you, and I am sure you know it,” Lara said. “Okay Alex, you need time, take your time, but do not ever call me if you are not ready to have me by your side,” Lara said as she continued to pack her things. She has already made up her mind that she is leaving because she does not think the feeling is mutual. Immediately after Lara left, Alex took out his phone and made a call to Stephen. He ordered Stephen to come to his place immediately without delay. He poured himself a whiskey as he continued to think about Emma Heart. This is what he is made up of. He was a linear, focused man. When he wants something, his focus is fixed on that thing until there is a solution on site. Emma was not one of his projects, but his mind could shake her off so he decided that he was going to go all out after her. Stephen came in carrying a lot of files that needed Alexander’s attention. When Alexander saw the files he was taken aback. “I did not ask for these files. Why did you bring them to my house?” asked Alex. “These are the files with the issue you talked about on Friday. I thought it was necessary to get these across to use since the meetings for these projects would begin soon,” said Stephen. “Please take them back. I never asked for them,” Alex said. “Okay, sir,” Stephen replied, “You were supposed to bring someone to me at the event. What happened? You never showed up with her and kept me in the guest room for a very long time,” Alex said. Stephen thought it was another of Alex's schemes where he sees a lady and wants to bed her. This one he had found for himself, and he was not going to give his boss, Emma Hearts, so he could add her as one of the ladies that warmed his bed. “Yes, boss. She refused. She said she did not want to see you. She was shouting, and it looked like we wanted to take advantage of her,” Stephen said, as he deceived Alex that Emma was being dramatic when he asked for her to be excused. “Did you get her name or something, her address, anyone connected to her,” Alex asked. “No sir, I did not, I am, so sorry sir,” said Stephen. Alex knew immediately that something was not right. The Emma he met at the entrance did not look like someone who wanted to cause chaos. He recalled that Emma was begging for a job so that she could feed her family. It was either Stephen was lying or he was playing a game with him. “You can go, I no longer need your service. See you at the office,” Alexander Sterling told his assistant as he reached out for his phone and called Nick. Nick was the CEO of the event company that handled his product launch. He knew he was bending the law, but he knew that his friend Nick would do anything for him. In fact, due to his status, no one would refuse him anything, maybe except for Emma Hearts, who had refused him an audience. Nick gave Alex the address that Emma Hearts had filled in when she was applying for the job. Alex was happy. He quickly changed his clothes and decided that he was going to visit the place himself and confirm the address. The only problem is that Emma Heart lives downtown, an area notorious for vices and crime. Alex packed at the warehouse. It was one of the addresses that was on Emma’s form. He took out his phone and took some pictures. He then went to see the other place that was filled by Emma Hearts, as no one was staying at the warehouse. He was grateful that he had not met Emma there and wondered why she would put that as an address since she was not going to be staying there. He noticed some group of boys following him, but he felt if he blended in they would leave him alone, so he changed his walking pattern and increased his pace. After some time, he could not see them anymore. He felt relieved. When he got to the address he saw Emma, her brother, and her mother. A sense of purpose rushed through his blood. He could buy the projects and develop them for these people at no cost. He felt he would need Emma to do that. He decided that he would call his Estate Manager the next morning. As he turned to leave, he saw the boys who were following him earlier. He quickly ducked his phone into his pocket and prepared himself for any possible outcome. “I do not want any trouble,” Alex said as he raised his hand, indicating that he wanted peace. “Do you want to tell us why you are busy taking pictures of our houses at this time of the night?” asked one of them. “I meant no harm, was only taking it for myself,” Alex replied. “Hand over the phone and your wristwatch too,” instructed one of them as he brought outa pen-knife. “Like I said, I do not come here for trouble,” Alex said. The one with the knife launched at him. Alex dodged and bent the arm of the boy. The knife dropped, but the others were all over him. They beat him up until he fell to the ground, and they continued beating him until they felt he was no longer breathing. Stop! One of them said. I think he is no longer breathing, he is dead,” as he reached for everything that was in Alex’s pocket, and they all ran away.
