2: HEART SEEKER

1135 Words
The opulent event unfolded in a whirlwind of colors, laughter, and clinking glasses. One could clearly see it was an event for taste and perception. It was the gathering of the high and mighty in the land. Alexander Sterling had ensured that he hosted everyone who mattered in the Town. Almost everyone there knew about Alexander’s high lifestyle and they came prepared. The event was successful in any ramifications. Alexander Sterling, the young billionaire, found himself distracted by the memory of the captivating encounter with Emma. He could not shake her memory off. Lara had to bring him back to consciousness on several occasions. She was not happy that Alex was not giving her the necessary attention. The vibrant atmosphere of the product launch faded into the background as the image of Emma lingered in his mind. Unable to ignore the pull, Alexander excused himself from the crowd and retreated to a quieter corner. He pulled out his phone and dialed his trusted personal assistant, Stephen. "Stephen, I need you to find someone for me," Alexander said, his voice carrying a sense of urgency. "Of course, sir. Who are we looking for?" Stephen replied promptly, ready to carry out his employer's wishes. "Her name is Emma Heart. She's working here tonight, but she's not a guest. She's part of the staff, maybe a waitress or an usher. I need you to locate her and bring her to me discreetly." "Emma Heart, sir. Understood. I'll get right on it," Stephen affirmed, his efficiency evident in his tone. As Alexander waited, he observed the glittering crowd, his mind replaying the brief but profound connection with Emma. He couldn't shake off the feeling that his accidental meeting with Emma held a certain significance beyond the ordinary. In the midst of the glamorous event, he found himself drawn to the idea of unraveling the mystery surrounding this enigmatic woman. Meanwhile, across the bustling venue, Emma was discreetly attending to dishes in the kitchen, her mind still reeling from the unexpected encounter with Alexander. She had been so focused on her tasks that she hadn't noticed the whispers circulating through the staff about the mysterious benefactor who intervened on her behalf. In a secluded corner, Stephen discreetly maneuvered through the crowd, his keen eyes scanning for the name "Emma Heart" on the staff list. The search led him through corridors and behind the scenes, finally bringing him to the backstage area where the event staff took brief respites beside the kitchen. Spotting Emma in the midst of the bustling activity, Stephen approached her with a professional yet approachable demeanor. "Excuse me, miss. Are you Emma Heart?" Startled, Emma looked up from arranging silverware. "Yes, that would be me. Is there a problem?" The way everyone bowed and showed respect to Stephen, she felt Stephen was the billionaire who had set all these things in motion. Even the event manager had rushed to attend to him. Sir - - sir - - sir, was the word flying around the kitchen as people pretended to be working or doing something. Though her mind still played the occurrence she had earlier with the handsome Alexander Sterling. She even liked the way he pronounced his name. "I would like to speak with you. Please, follow me," Stephen explained, giving her a reassuring smile. Stephen could not believe the beauty his eyes had just witnessed. He kept on gazing at Emma consistently. Emma's curiosity mingled with a sense of apprehension as she followed Stephen. She did not know that Stephen was Alexander's Personal Assistant. They went through the alleys and corridors of the event venue. She wondered why Stephen wanted to see her and what could be so important that he could not send someone to find her. As they reached a more secluded area, Stephen gestured towards a set of elegant double doors. "We are here, please. Please, go ahead." Emma took a deep breath, smoothing down her uniform. With a mix of nerves and intrigue, she pushed the doors open and entered a room bathed in soft light. The air was charged with a sense of anticipation as she spotted a large chair near a large window. One can see the city lights from there. "Emma," he said, turning to face her with a warm smile. "Thank you for coming." Surprised by the genuine tone in his voice, Emma nodded. "You wanted to see me, Mr. . . . . .?" "Please, call me Stephen. And yes, I wanted to see you," he replied, motioning for her to join him by the window. As Emma approached, she couldn't help but notice the contrast between the glamorous event outside and the quiet intimacy of this moment. The city lights cast a soft glow on Stephen's features, revealing a vulnerability beneath the polished exterior. "Emma, I couldn't help but notice that you seemed a bit out of place earlier. I wanted to make sure everything was alright," Stephen explained, his eyes searching hers for any sign of discomfort. Caught off guard by his genuine concern, Emma hesitated before responding. "I appreciate your kindness, Mr. Stephen. But everything is fine. I'm here to work and do my job." Stephen leaned against the window sill, studying her with a thoughtful expression. "I'm glad to hear that. You see, I have a knack for recognizing when something doesn't quite align. And when I saw you, I couldn't shake off the feeling that our path crossing tonight was more than just a coincidence." Emma met his gaze, her curiosity piqued. "What do you mean?" She asked. "There's an energy, a connection, that goes beyond the ordinary. Call it intuition or fate, but I believe there's a reason we met tonight," Stephen explained, his sincerity evident in every word. “I did not meet with you sir, you found me out. I know you are a billionaire, but this looks like a kidnap,” Emma said. “Yet we are here,” replied Stephen. Emma, still processing the unexpected turn of events, felt a mixture of emotions. "I'm just a waitress, Mr. Stephen. I don't see how our meeting could be anything more than chance. And here it looked like a well-orchestrated scheme." Stephen chuckled, his eyes sparkling. "Sometimes, chance has a way of leading us to something extraordinary. I would like to get to know the person behind the uniform, Emma. If you're willing, of course." Emma was confused. She could not place it. Why would the billionaire founder come for her out of all the ladies in the room for the event? He must have seen her during that fracas she had earlier. Someone must have reported her to Stephen. She made up her mind not to tell anyone until she figured out what exactly was going on.
