Chapter 4: The Alpha of Bloodfang

1086 Words
The air inside the grand hall was thick with tension, the sound of Selene’s hurried footsteps echoing off the stone walls as she was dragged forward by two of the Bloodfang warriors. She barely noticed their grip, the rough hands that gripped her arms, or the storm raging outside. All she could focus on was the overwhelming presence in front of her. The Alpha. Alpha Kael Draven. Selene’s heart raced in her chest as she was forced to her knees in front of him. She had heard stories of the Bloodfang Alpha of his brutal reputation, his cold demeanor, and his fierce leadership. The tales spoke of a man who ruled with an iron fist, who was as merciless as he was powerful. But nothing, nothing could have prepared her for the storm that tore through her when their eyes met. The moment their gazes locked, it was as though the universe had shifted on its axis. The bond, sudden and brutal, exploded inside her, it was sharp, burning and painful, as though something deep within her had been awakened. Every fiber of her being screamed that she was meant to be here, meant to be with him. The world around her dissolved into a haze of heat, need, and dizzying attraction. But Kael’s expression did not soften. In fact, it hardened. His lips curled back in a snarl as his piercing golden eyes fixed on her. Selene’s breath caught in her throat, and she felt the wave of rejection crashing down on her before the words even left his mouth. “No,” he spat, his voice low and commanding, but sharp with fury. “I will not have you here.” The warriors around her stepped back, and Selene’s pulse faltered. She wanted to speak, to protest, but the bond thrummed inside her, searing her with each passing second, and it took all of her strength to remain upright. Kael’s gaze never wavered from her, and the hall grew quieter with each passing moment. His rejection hit her like a physical blow. The pain in her chest was almost unbearable, her heart splintering as the bond twisted and strained, trying to force its connection. “You…” Kael’s voice cut through the thick silence. He took a step forward, towering over her as if he were a god and she, some insignificant speck of dust beneath his heel. “You are nothing but a curse. A warning. You will bring nothing but disaster upon this pack.” Selene’s heart hammered in her chest, the weight of his words pressing down on her. The warriors around them shifted, uncomfortable but silent, as if waiting for their Alpha’s command. “You are the one foretold in the prophecy,” Kael continued, his eyes narrowing. “The one who will bring about my downfall. My death.” Her mind struggled to catch up with the words he spoke, her head spinning with the sudden revelation. The prophecy? The warriors behind her seemed to brace themselves, waiting for the storm that was to come. Kael let out a low growl, almost to himself. “I have already sacrificed too much to fall victim to fate and blood. I will not allow it.” Selene felt her throat close as his words struck her, each one like a dagger twisting deeper into her chest. “You are nothing,” he said, voice hard, each syllable laced with disgust. “You are just another obstacle. I will not bind myself to you.” His words fell like stones into the silence. And yet, they echoed louder than anything else. The pain from the bond intensified, spreading through her chest like wildfire, suffocating her with the weight of it. Her vision blurred, and she struggled to breathe, each breath a jagged, painful effort. She felt like she was drowning in the very thing she had been desperate for her entire life, the bond that was supposed to be a gift, not a curse. Her head snapped to the side as if someone had slapped her, and she flinched when the warriors began to murmur behind her. She had no idea what they were saying, but it didn’t matter. Their words were just noise. Her entire world had become Kaels, his rejection, his coldness, his refusal. “I will not claim you,” Kael said again, his voice softer now, but the finality in his tone rang loud in her ears. “You are not my mate. And you never will be.” Selene’s eyes burned with unshed tears, the agony of his rejection coursing through her. The bond should have been a beautiful thing. It should have been a moment of connection, of union but for her, it felt like a curse. The pain, the ache in her heart, was something she couldn’t escape. She couldn’t outrun it, couldn’t flee from it. She tried to lift her head, to look him in the eye, but her vision was swimming. She felt weaker, like the energy had been drained from her, as if her very soul was being torn in two. “Take her away,” Kael commanded, his voice harsh, dismissive. “She is of no use to me. You know what to do with her.” The warriors grabbed hold of her, their hands rough as they yanked her up to her feet. She didn’t resist, though every part of her wanted to fight, to scream, to beg for him to take it back. The bond was burning her alive, and she was powerless against it. As they pulled her away, her heart sank lower with each step. She knew that there was no going back. She had been discarded. Rejected by the one person she was meant to be with. The one person who, for reasons beyond her understanding, should have been her mate. But the truth was clear: Kael Draven, Alpha of Bloodfang, had no intention of claiming her. He had rejected her. And with that rejection came the certainty that she was no longer safe. Selene’s mind raced, but all she could do was follow the warriors, feeling the weight of Kael’s decision pressing down on her every step. The words from earlier echoed in her mind like a haunting refrain: You will bring nothing but disaster upon this pack. Her world had just shattered, and she had no idea what was waiting for her next. All she knew was that she had been abandoned by fate.
