Chapter 16: You never change

Without overly reacting regarding the true value of a single gold could cost, Adriel explained its true worth over these past few years, when before he was even reincarnated. It appears there are 3 levels of currency within the Althas Kingdom and it was imposed last year because of the conflict between neighboring kingdom's which she disclosed for several reasons. The lowest of the levels was none other than bronze coins and it's currently used for changes. The second and the most widely exchanged currency were the silver coins as it's essentially vital for securing items and equipment for finishing quests and repeating the cycle of collecting riches. However, Arion did not expect the value of one gold coin. Apparently, a single coin is equivalent to a whopping 500,000 silver coins, and Adriel's personal home is situated behind the Guildhall for convenience cost for about 5,000,000 silver coins which means using 10 golds sparingly, he can have his own house. Supposedly, the gist was that gold coins became so rare that mages and wizards can get something valuable only through defeating S-Class Quests. While she's at it, she also explained the classes of quests for each rank of the mages involved from doing it. These classes indicate that it's only allowed for specific mages who can actually accomplish such feat. The lowest class are known as D-Class Quests and sometimes it involves domestic work or taking care of field monsters, or even delivery mission or sending a message over different address. Highly recommended for new mages, Apprentices, and Spellcasters who just joined the Guild. The C-Class Quests on the other hand is quite simple as the D-Class Quests; the only difference is that it includes defeating monsters that disturb the peace of the kingdom meant for mages that have the rank of Spellcaster and above. D and C are classified as having the same difficulty as their line of job isn't falling apart from their work. While the B-Class Quests are quite hard than the previous two and this kind of job is where the mage will feel the toughness of the labor and the workforce needed to finish a certain quest. This kind of work level is where the seriousness of being a mage is exerted since they needed vast knowledge of the varying spectrum of magic. Only those who have reached the rank of Sorcerer can accept such a quest. The A-Class Quests is where the true challenges could happen. The life of the mages who are involved will be put in the line as their job included defeating mythical monsters and acting as the front-line defense of the Kingdom. Mages that have acquired specific classes such as Wizard and Witch who have the diamond emblem are those who are allowed from receiving this level of work. Last but not least is the S-Class Quests and only Magister with proper team composition can undertake this kind of mission. Aside from its relatively dangerous task where anyone who accepted such a quest can die and no one will never hear from them again, a job such as this requires pure skill and wisdom to alter national-level affairs. Sometimes it can also be accompanied by defeating legendary monsters whether it be lands, skies, and even deepest part of the seas. "Anyways, I'm pretty sure you're penniless right now. Oh well, I guess we should do some A-Class Quests and–" Just when Adriel was going to address he's currently broke, Arion swiped his fingers around the air and a handful of gold coins dropped on the ground. "Don't worry, I still have 5,000 gold coins. We won't go broke." Arion had no idea he almost shocked Adriel to death. Her mouth was agape while looking down the floor, gold coins were littered. "Arion... you are this rich, and you can also use Compression magic... just who are you?" Wondering from her sudden change of demeanor over her while thinking what could she mean by Compression magic, maybe she had the wrong notion as there's no way he could use magic let alone do a specific advanced form of witchcraft. "First of all, I can't use magic. Second of all, I'm Arion Aldrehrt, I happened to be rich, that is all." He extremely being cautious not to let others know he was reincarnated by some weird skeleton that claims to be the Grim Reaper of the Underworld. "I should speak up with Lilith. It could be a problem if she gets lonely." Arion flickered his fingers and the remaining golds coin littered on the floor just kind of disappear and went back to the system interface. Without knowing what it actually is, Adriel also believed it's not Compression magic since there's no emission of mana that happened. She's also disappointed the one gold coins she swiped was also gone and she can't tell him the fact that her house was under a contract and she needed to pay monthly or else she'll be kicked out. Just as Arion entered Adriel's room like it's the normal thing to do, he overheard Lilith's rumbling stomach while she's breathing heavily. She startled when he stepped in and goes back in her usual posture of sitting properly. But he knows more than anyone that she was hiding something undesirable. "Lilith... when is the last day you've eaten?" He was being considerate. Even himself couldn't deny she's still a slave just hours ago, unquestionably, there should be thorns inside her heart from the trauma she got through violence. "...ek..." Lilith's voice was so meek he couldn't hear what she was saying. "I'm sorry, I didn't hear it. Can you please repeat it again?" Arion clarified and sat next to her this time. "Last week..." She answered meekly. The kindness within his heart swelled as he couldn't believe she's not eating for the entire week. Aside from violence and brutality while she's still a slave, they refused to give her adequate food for her growth. As the one who undertakes the responsibility, Arion couldn't proceed on his plan if one of his companions is in such a condition. "By the way, my workshop is located below so you can check it out later." Adriel just entered the room and Arion was already going out again dragging Lilith behind him. While he's at it, he also pulled her and went straight to the kitchen as if he owns the house. Checking the entire structure of the two-story house and the rooms inside it beforehand come in handy. "Uhm... why am I being drag around inside my house?" Adriel's confused why Arion forced her to sit on a chair in front of the dining table. He also did the same thing with Lilith. "I just simply got hungry so I will cook something for today." Arion couldn't directly say he's doing it for Lilith who hasn't eaten a single grain of rice over the days that went by. "Good grief, you could've said earlier, I'll help you cook..." Suddenly, Adriel's face was turning red. "......" Lilith was dead-silent as she couldn't express how happy she was that someone was cooking for her. She couldn't bear it anymore and secretly cried on a corner. Arion clearly saw it and gritted his teeth because he couldn't console her thinking he failed as a person. Meanwhile, behind the shadows of the shelves and furniture, Yuna was hiding all along without any of the three discerning she's sneakily lurking. "Kind and a good-hearted human... you never changed even at the bound of this world, Arion," Yuna whispered before she disappeared in the darkness.
