On the other side of town, in a luxurious five-star hotel, Jacob gazed at the woman lying in his bed.
Her bewitching eyes, cheeks still flushed from the alcohol, and the steady rhythm of her breathing stirred something primal within him. The urge to possess her consumed him entirely.
When had he, Jacob Garcia, ever lost control like this? But this woman made him lose control, made him crave her to the point of addiction. Her scent was familiar, like a drug seeping into his veins, making him yearn for more.
As the first rays of dawn filtered into the room, Chloe stirred, her body aching as if it had been put through the wringer. She frowned, the soreness bringing her to full awareness.
The air was thick with the scent of passion, and Chloe’s eyes scanned the room. The bed was a mess, clothes were scattered everywhere, and next to her lay an insanely handsome man.
What was going on?
Chloe tried to piece together the events of the previous night. She remembered drinking heavily.
Drunken passion? Was she that bold?
She glanced at the sleeping man beside her. His flawless features, pale skin, chiseled jaw, and muscular chest were perfect in every way.
“Wow, he’s ridiculously handsome,” she muttered.
“Who would’ve thought I’d end up with such a gorgeous guy after getting drunk?”
“But hey, handsome, you also took advantage of me. This was my first time, after all.”
Chloe mumbled to herself as she hastily dressed.
“Why do you look so familiar?” Chloe frowned, scrutinizing Jacob. Suddenly, it hit her. Her eyes widened in shock, and she swallowed hard. “Jacob!”
She nearly shouted his name but quickly clamped her hand over her mouth.
“Oh my God, I slept with Jacob Garcia?”
Chloe hurriedly finished dressing and bolted from the room. The man in the bed was someone she couldn’t afford to cross.
When Chloe returned home, she was surprised to find not just her father, stepmother, and stepsister, but also Mark waiting for her.
Stepmother Brianna Baker sneered at her. "Well, well, look who finally decided to come home—our precious Taylor heiress."
Chloe didn’t even spare Brianna a glance. She had grown used to the woman’s constant antagonism over the past twenty years.
"Where have you been? Out all night without a word?" Chloe's father Daniel Taylor demanded, a deep frown etched between his brows.
"I went to a bar, got drunk, and slept somewhere else," Chloe replied nonchalantly, maintaining an indifferent demeanor.
"You went to find a man, didn’t you?" Mark glared at her, his fury barely contained. Receiving that text last night had nearly sent him over the edge.
"Yeah, so what? Is it any of your business?" Chloe shot back, her disdain for Mark evident. Just looking at him made her feel sick.
"Fine, Chloe, very brave of you," Mark seethed, nearly choking on his anger. When had he ever been so humiliated by a woman?
"Mr. Perez, please calm down. Chloe is just being immature. Don’t take it personally," Daniel interjected, trying to placate him. Offending Mark was not an option; his small company depended on the cooperation with Perez Group.
"Hmph, Mr. Taylor, I think we need to reconsider our partnership with Taylor Group," Mark declared, his tone full of arrogance.
Daniel’s face paled, and he turned to Chloe, shouting, "b***h, apologize to Mr. Perez immediately!"
Chloe scoffed at Mark. "Mark, you’re so pathetic, using business to pressure people. Do you feel accomplished if I apologize?"
"Chloe, I’m the one who plays people, not the other way around," Mark snarled, grabbing her chin. The memory of being dumped the previous night fueled his rage.
"Who is this man?" Mark demanded, pulling out his phone and showing her the picture from last night’s text.
Chloe glanced at the photo—she was drunkenly leaning against a man’s chest, but his face wasn’t visible. Relieved, she took a breath. "Just someone I met at the bar. What’s the big deal?"
"Chloe, are you challenging me? Do you believe I can make Taylor Group disappear from A City in a day?" Mark threatened.
Daniel’s expression turned grim. He knew Mark wasn’t bluffing; Perez Group had the power to make that happen.
"Sister, just apologize to Mr. Perez. You were in the wrong. If you soften up and explain the photo, he’ll forgive you," Mia Taylor urged softly, her face the picture of innocence.
Looking at Mia’s sweet face, Chloe had the urge to smack her with a slipper.
"Chloe, apologize to Mr. Perez now," Daniel demanded, echoing Mia’s plea.
“Dad!” Chloe smiled, a challenge in her eyes. “What if I don’t apologize?”
“You—!” Daniel, driven by impulse, slapped Chloe across the face.
The sharp sound echoed in the living room.
But Chloe didn’t hear the slap; she heard her heart shattering.
Since childhood, she had never been favored. Brianna saw her as a thorn in her side, and Daniel, consumed by work, trusted Brianna’s words without question. Every time Brianna complained, he would either hit or scold Chloe without understanding the situation. She had long since lost any affection for this family.
This slap shattered whatever was left of her heart.
Mark wore a smug smile, issuing a threat, “Mr. Taylor, I’ll give you one choice. Make sure this woman leaves A City immediately. Better yet, send her abroad and never let her return. If she shows up in A City or in front of me again, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”
“Yes, yes, Mr. Perez, rest assured. Within three days, you won’t see her again,” Daniel agreed without a moment’s hesitation.
“I mean now. Immediately,” Mark’s voice hardened.
“Ms. Davis, pack up Miss Chloe’s things,” Brianna called out, eager to kick Chloe out.
“Yes, ma’am!”
In ten minutes, Ms. Davis came down with Chloe’s luggage.
“Mr. Perez, please give my sister another chance,” Mia pleaded with Mark.
Mark glanced at Chloe, a mocking smile on his lips. “Chloe, if you want to stay, strip down at the Amour Hotel tonight and beg me properly.”
“Haha!” Chloe laughed, pulling down her collar. “See this? This is from last night. I, Chloe, would sleep with every man in the world before I’d sleep with a beast like you.”
The love bites on her neck infuriated Mark, pushing him over the edge.
Smack!
He slapped Chloe hard, much harder than Daniel had, causing blood to trickle from the corner of her mouth.
“You shameless b***h, get out of here.”
Chloe looked at Daniel. A stranger was bossing them around, and her father didn’t even have the courage to say a word in her defense.
“Here’s a ticket to Country W,” Brianna tossed the ticket at Chloe’s feet.
A plane ticket already prepared? So, this was premeditated.
Realizing the truth, Chloe smiled, picked up the ticket, grabbed her suitcase, and walked out without looking back.
