Freya
“Are you sure this is going to work?” I questioned Lucy as I fussed with the rhinestone wolf mask on my face as it slowly slipped annoyingly down my nose.
“Well, it is masquerade themed, and you’re wearing a mask,” Lucy said as we snuck through the woods, Lucy moving far quicker than me. Her wolf powers obvious even without turning stinging my ego a bit.
“Don’t go so fast,” I whined as I tried to keep up. Even with my daily running routine, my legs couldn’t keep up with her supernatural strength.
“Sorry,” she whispered, slowing her stride as we neared the edge of the property.
“There it is! “Lucy said giddily, pointing the lavish, red bricked, castle like house in front of us. “The alphas house.”
“It’s the alphas birthday?!” I exclaimed, and Lucy put her finger to her lips.
“Shut up girl, you’re going to blow our cover!” Lucy snipped.
“Lucy, this is such a bad idea,” I replied, glancing back over my shoulder. “We should just go back—“
“—Oh come on, Freya,” Lucy groaned. “Don’t you think it’s time you got to live a little?”
I let her words sweep through my mind and sat on that statement for a moment. I had always been such a good kid, never getting in trouble, doing everything my father ever wanted…and still, despite it all, I still wasn’t enough. So what did it matter? Why couldn’t I just do whatever the hell I wanted? The very thought of the look on my father’s face if he knew I’d be hanging out with the enemy leaving a smirk on my face. Even though my hair was standing on end just thinking about heading into enemy territory.
“Alright, let’s do it.”
“Yes! This is going to be so much fun,” Lucy said as we zipped through the rest of the trees and headed towards the front door, still dressed a slinky black dress, and Lucy wearing an almost identical one, but in scarlet red.
I was shocked to find no security detail at the front, and we slunk in fairly easily, Lucy greeting people she seemed to know as we made our way through the hallways and into their banquet hall. My whole body tingling as if I’d been set on fire.
My whole life I’d been taught that the Blood Moons were awful, barbaric, stupid slobs. However, the more I looked around, the more they just seemed like normal wolves, just going about their lives.
“Oooh, they’ve got booze!” Lucy yelled over the music. “Let’s get some punch, I bet it’ll calm your nerves.”
I wasn’t exactly sold on the idea—I had never drunk before except ceremonial wine—but as he shoved the cup into my hand and the scent of vodka and fruit hit my nose and I stared into the red solo cup, I just shrugged and slammed it.
“Damn girl!” Lucy said as she followed suit, chugging her glass before refilling both of ours. “To the outcasts,” she said as she raised her glass in a toast.
“To the outcasts,” I said with a grin as we clinked our glasses together, chugging another glass before refilling again. Over and over slamming drinks, before making our way toward the dance floor, chock full of people dancing.
The music was far different from what I was used to, not that I’d never heard it, rather that it ‘wasn’t allowed’ at home— though I’d sneak it in my headphones. My father said hip hop and rock wasn’t dignified, so most of the music I was around growing up was always a more classical style of music. Whereas the Blood Moons music was loud, dark and moody. I really loved it.
Throughout the night, Lucy and I danced with one another, and with some of the hottest men I’d ever seen. Not that the Silver Moons didn’t have some hotties, but there was just something about the smell and style of the Blood Moons that was alluring in comparison.
“Oof,” I said as a little bit of a dizzy spell hit me. “I think I went a little too ham on that punch.”
“Ah s**t,” Lucy replied, turning away from her dance partner. “You want to bail?”
“Nah,” I said with shake of my head, the mask slipping slightly, and I gently pushed it back up “I think I just need some air.”
“Want me to come with?” Lucy asks.
“Eh, I think I’ll be alright,” I said.
“Okay, but if you run into any trouble, text me,” Lucy replied, shaking the clutch bag hooked around her hand.
“Mhmm,” I replied as I pulled my phone from my bra and held it up. “Full bars.”
“Alright, see you soon then.”
I made my way back through the halls, but it became apparent very quickly that I had made a wrong turn somewhere as I wandered into a hallway that was darker than the others. “Damn it,” I murmured to myself as I turned around and walked back towards the lights, only to smack into something hard, my phone flying out of my hand and skittering across the floor as I lost my balance. My mask slipping down to my neck. But before I could hit the linoleum, I was stopped mid-flight, and when I looked up…I saw the most magnificent man I’d ever laid eyes on.
Well, from what I could see with his mask on.
“Oh my gosh I’m so sorry,” he said as he held me, his voice deep, a chocolatey baritone that caused frisson on my skin, and his eyes a soul piercing blue that I could see even in the low light, peering at me softly from behind his ornate, mirrored mask.
“No, it’s my bad,” I insist as I feel all the heat in my body migrate towards my cheeks as he sets me back on my feet. “I was looking for the exit, and I got lost.”
“Yeah, the place is kind of a maze,” he says with a hearty laugh, and I can smell the alcohol on his breath, burning my nose. “Here let me guide you to the door,” the mysterious man said as he gently put his hand on the small of my back and steered me in the opposite direction.
“That would be lovely,” I say as he begins to stumble himself, and I try my best to hold him up. His muscular body so heavy.
We head through the hallways, through the ballroom, past the party and out through the front door, the cold air feeling good on my face. “Thanks for helping me, I would have never made it out of the labyrinth,” I say as I spot a bench, and I take a seat.
I expected him to just accept my thanks and run back in, but instead much to my surprise, the tall stranger sat next to me. “This thing is so warm,” he said as he took his mask off, and as he turned to face me, I felt my breath catch in my chest.
“B-Blake,” I murmured, and he let out a bit of a chuckle. The alpha of the Blood Moon clan himself, inches away from me…and hotter than any of the photos father had ever shown me.
“In the flesh,” he said as he did a funny little bow. “And you… you are someone completely new, aren’t you?”
“I—“
“Your scent is so… interesting,” he said as he pushed a lock of hair behind my ear, causing my arms to become covered in goosebumps, his pheromones filling my nose and making my heart race. “You must be David’s friend he told me about.”
Shit, I thought to myself as he neared closer, his hand on my cheek. Everything is moving so fast! What do I even say?! I can’t say ‘Nope I’m a party crasher from the Silver Moons’!
“Y-yeah,” I replied. “David told me this party was going to be killer.”
“It definitely is,” Blake said as he wrapped his arm behind my back, his eyes meeting mine before he planted a kiss right on my lips.
My first instinct was to pull away, but the feel of his lips against mine felt like pure electricity, making me feel more alive than I’d ever felt in my eighteen years. Instead, I wrapped my fingers into his hair, and before I knew it we were making out passionately under the full moon.
He gently bit my lip before pulling away slightly, a lustful, sly grin on his face. “Let’s take this someplace a bit more private, shall we?” he said, pressing another kiss to my lips.
“Yes please,” I agreed, ignoring all the alarm bells ringing in my head as he picked up in his arms and we headed towards the back of the building, walked through the back door, and wandered the halls wobbly until we made it to his room.
He put me down on the bed, and before I knew it, his hands were everywhere, followed by his gifted mouth, and as he crawled from between my legs and settled over me… I knew things were about to get really spicy, very fast.
And I was all for it.
