"Where's your dad?" Catherine blurted out instinctively.
Max smiled.
"Dad took off the moment he saw Mom. Probably went looking for her."
Catherine's mind went blank, as if struck by lightning. It was over; Lorenzo really didn't even want to look at her.
Feeling defeated, she turned away. "I'll go make breakfast."
She felt completely useless. She had been standing on the balcony, watching the father and son, but somehow, her intense gaze had made Lorenzo disappear.
Oh well, if Lorenzo wanted to leave, let him. He's a grown man with his own freedom. She had upset him, and it was only natural for him to be a bit angry.
As she turned silently, there was a dull "thump."
Catherine winced in pain. It hurt!
