Crawling into the abandoned building at East River Drive, the creature slowly licks its wounds and watches the rest of its family crawl into shelter before daylight breaks. Its eyes dilate, watching as one of its minion's crawl beside. Throwing itself on its hind legs, it stood next to the brick wall of their home and snarled.
"He should have never gotten away." Drool flowed out of its lips and wiped it away.
"I know, it's impossible for a human to become strong that quickly after transformation." Its teeth scratched against the hard shell protecting its face. "He's different."
The comrades turned its neck making a rattling noise as it flinched. "We must catch him, and destroy him."
"No. He's the chosen one."
Green mucous flowed out of its mouth, pushing its comrades towards the door, it looked towards the suns light shining the sky in the darkness. Daylight is what it misses, darkness is its friend. The creature crawls inside the dark cave, and takes a deep shallow breath, "The chosen one, will lead us to freedom."
*****************************************************************************************Turning the key to the door, Becca, slowly walked into the apartment. The living room was dark even though the sun was slowly rising. Stretching she walked towards her bedroom and turned on the light. Looking up, she jumped at the sight of her brother sitting on her bed. Anger and disappointment on his face.
"Where the hell were you?"
Putting down the stake, she walked towards her dresser to take out her pajamas.
"I was out walking."
Leo, stood up from the bed and crossed his arms. "You gotta be freakin' kidding me." She felt him going into her mind, to see the turn of events. Becca threw a rubber ball at Leo hitting his chest, snapping him out of his telekinesis.
"You were with him! I can't believe it, what is wrong with you? I told you to… Wait?"
He froze collecting the information that he read from Becca. Shock grew in his eyes, his hands shook. Swallowing, he walked towards Becca, looked into her eyes. Placing his hands on her shoulders, Leo gave it a light squeeze.
"Why, didn't you call us to help?"
"I didn't need any help, and you weren't going to come down to the drive and help Jason. It was already too late. He was already getting the effects of it by the time he got to the field."
Leo dropped his hands from her shoulders and slowly nodded his head. Taking a deep breath, he took a step back. "That's where you're wrong. I would have gone to the field and helped."
Confusion crossed Becca's eyes watching her brother walk out of her room. "You would've helped?"
Leo turned around and looked into Beccas eyes. Rolling his shoulders, his answer was very harsh, making the hairs on Beccas arms rise. "I would have been there to help. Help drive your stake through that son of a b***h's heart."
Becca opened her mouth and quickly closed it when he walked out of her room, and closed the door.
*****************************************************************************************Tossing, turning, the room suddenly felt cold, as Jason lay in bed. He stared at the ceiling, the sun slowly lit up his room. His mother walked into his room to check up on him, and he groggily waved her away, telling her that he had the stomach virus. Looking at his cell phone, he pushed it under his pillow and tried to shut his eyes. Going over the turn of events that happened earlier, frustrated Jason pushed his covers away. Walking out of his room, he wobbled over to the living room. Plopping onto the couch, in his pajama pants and t-shirt he switched on the television and blasted music videos. Feeling his head throb, he decided to go to the kitchen and drink some cold water.
Earlier, after his mother left to work, Jason walked outside to the roof and stood in the doorway a few minutes until the sun started to peak out from behind the clouds. The sun illuminated the sky light blue, how beautiful it looks rising. Watching the sun slowly break free through the horizon, it slowly touched his skin. Looking down at his arms it shined in the early daylight. His skin started to irritate and slowly burn. He squeezed his eyes tightly, seeing how far he can go before it ignites into flames. Looking back down, he groaned in pain, watching his skin peel off into ashes. His heart swelled as he held back his tears, and walked back inside. Taking a final look at the sun before entering the building he watched the sun slowly rise and become brighter above the horizon. Day break, will I ever see this again?
Filling up a glass with cold water, he took a few sips. His stomach started to growl, he was getting hungry and couldn't go outside until the sun sets. Looking at the wall clock and groaned, 11am and the sun won't be down until close to 7pm. It's going to be a long day. Grunting he scratched his shoulder and walked back into the living room. Slumping onto the coach he started playing with his cell phone. Going through the contact list, he couldn't remember half of the people on the phone. Slowly he scrolled down until he stopped on Becca's name. Watching her fight those night crawlers, he realized that Becca was stronger than what she looked. Her small frame maneuvered and killed as she fought. How come it's very hard to remember her from before? Hopefully, my memory comes back after I eat. The thought of food, made his stomach churn more. Damn, I can't eat regular anymore, this sucks. How the hell can I survive this way? I can't attack random people for blood, there has to be another way. Pressing the text button, he typed a message to Becca.
"I can't stay here, about to go crazy..."
Pressing the send button, Jason laid down on the couch and looked up at the ceiling. Thoughts rushed into his mind, trying to figure himself out, his phone beeped alerting him of a text that he received. Opening up the text icon, Becca sent him a reply.
"I'll come by before 8pm, can you wait til then?"
His guts slightly clenched from the thought of waiting close to nine hours. He typed back, his fingers slipping across the keys. "I'll try to hold it down. But can you try to get to me earlier?"
He waited until she responded back. A few minutes went by, until finally Becca replied.
"Ok, I'll bring something for you."
Placing the phone on his chest, the rumbling in his stomach calmed a bit. He looked at the clock again noticing that it was going to be a very long day, he laid on the couch wondering how he got himself into this mess.
Jason jumped up as his cell phone rang, hearing it hit the floor. Cursing he picked it up and looked at the screen. Becca. What time is it? He looked up at the clock realizing it was 3:15pm, he picked up the call. "Becca?"
"Yes, I'm in front of your door, open it please."
Hanging up, his hands shook, as he walked to the door. His head started to pound again, the overpowering pain hit him as his stomach screamed for food. Jesus, I never felt like this before. Jason clenched his teeth as he tried to calm his stomach down. Dropping the cell on a nearby table, he struggled to open the door. Becca stood in the hallway, as Jason slowly opened the door. Moving out of the way, he weakly waved her in to go inside. Becca hesitated as she stared at him. She carried her book bag on one shoulder as she walked into his apartment and stopped in the living room. Locking the door, Jason struggled to walk through the small hallway. He watched Becca slowly sit on the couch and place her book bag on the floor. She looked up at him and stood up to grab his shoulder. Jason wanted to pull away, but couldn't, the raging spasms in his stomach overwhelmed him. Pulling him onto the couch, Becca sat next to him, and looked into his eyes for a second.
His eyes slowly trailed down her beautiful face. Her neck connected smoothly to her soft shoulders as he let his eyes explore her. Her pulse quickened, he could see it move on her neck and her left breast, where her heart beats. Jason licked his lips, watching her pulse softly beat on her neck. Her black cotton tank top, made her breasts fuller as he watched Becca adjust herself, bending over to retrieve something out of her bag. Her black hair was tied back in a ponytail, exposing her long neck.
Before Jason could jump her and sink his now protruding fangs into her soft neck, Becca got up with a small plastic bag in her hands and walked towards the kitchen disappearing behind the wall. Hearing her open the cabinet and taking out a glass, Jason hears her washing out the cup and opening what was in the bag. A strange smell came out of the kitchen all of his senses was on high. His stomach started to fight as Becca walked out of the kitchen with the glass in her hands. It smells so damn delicious, feeling his body stand up and walk towards Becca, his stomach screamed more as she stood in front of him. Placing the cup in his hands, Becca pushed it towards his suddenly chapped lips. The aroma was exhilarating, a small amount dripped on his lips and his body jerked, grabbing the cup away from Beccas hands he quickly swallowed the drink. He licked the cup swallowing every last drop of blood. Jason’s body started to relax and gain control. His dry, pale skin started to glow, regaining its color. Licking his lips, he felt his body gain its energy back.
Becca stood and watched him go back to normal, or close to it. His fangs still showed, but it's because he is still hungry. Taking the glass back she walked back into the kitchen and refilled his cup full of blood. Walking back Becca looks up at Jason. He was looking at himself in the mirror. His dark brown eyes, were now a lighter brown. The muscles on his arms flexed as he slowly reached for his second fill of blood. Jason made smaller gulps as he watched Becca walk towards the couch and pick up her bag. Sitting on the arm, she pulled out more bags and walked back towards the kitchen.
"That's all blood?"
Becca nodded, as she kept the bags wrapped and placed it in the bottom shelf off the refrigerator. Adjusting the temperature in the shelf to the correct temperature, she closed the drawer and closed the refrigerator door. Becca walked towards Jason and looked into his eyes again. Damn, she's so beautiful. Why couldn't I remember her in the past? All I remember is her name. She looked down and went into her pocket, pulling out a thick circle, she let the lamp light touch it. The ring was gold with blue shards all around it. Touching his hand she placed it in his palm. The golden ring, shined on his palm as the shards sparkled in the lamp light. It felt lighter than the last one, and better looking too. Jason, places the ring on his middle finger.
"Whenever you walk outside in day light, you always have to keep that ring on. That ring has been, "blessed" even though you see yourself as cursed."
Jason looked at Becca as she explained the ring to him, waving his hand at her. She looked at him. "Explain what is so special about this ring. Because I remember watching those stupid vampire movies and none of them can step into day light without turning into a pile of ash."
Becca walked towards the love seat and sat down. "You have to sit for this one." Patting the seat next to her, Jason obediently crossed in front of her and plopped in the seat next to her. Becca took a deep breath, "My mother is a witch, she has put a spell on that very ring you have on, with the special shards that are on your ring, called lapis lazuli. That ring will have you walk on the sun and back, without anything happening to you."
"Your mom is a witch? Which makes you a witch too right?"
Becca shook her head, "I'm considered a disciple, a born slayer. I kill vampires, werewolves, demons, night crawlers anything that poses a threat to the human race." Watching Jason adjust to what she said, more questions flooded his mind. Before he could ask, Becca was already answering them.
"My brother Leo, Shay and John are slayers as well, but they are not disciples. They are trained, their powers which isn't as strong as mines were acquired through time." Putting her hand in the air motioning Jason to stop, she continued answering. "Powers such as mind reading, hypnotism are some of mine and Leo's powers. Leo, Shay and John are supposed to be guardians. They as well are slayers, but not as strong as I am. We all have sensitivity to who is what in our world, we travel and slay. It's so many that every day it multiplies."
Jason shook his head, processing what was said. "Wait a minute. You're telling me that not only there are vampires but there are werewolves too? What the hell. Is this Twilight, or something? This is crazy, I can't believe this." Jason started to laugh and got up, swirling the small amount of blood that is left in his glass, he drank the rest of it, and placed the glass on the table. His body feels rejuvenated now. He could run the whole Lower Manhattan to Coney Island and back. That's how much energy is running through his body.
"You probably can run that far and back."
Jason looked at Becca, forgetting that she can read his thoughts, he rubbed his neck and looked out the window. The sun was setting, the shadows on the sidewalks started to get darker. Stepping away from the window, Jason walked into the hallway to his bedroom.
Becca, watched as he slowly closed the door to his room. She pulled her backpack and started to zip it up. Slinging it over her shoulder she walks towards the door. The hallway was full of pictures on the wall. Pictures of Jason's mom, Ana. Her hair was tied in a ponytail, she wore a red fringed blouse with black slacks, holding in her arms was baby Alex in his blue sailor outfit and tiny white socks, and Jason in his white dress shirt and blue pants. His bright smile shined with his mom on this picture. Jason was adorable when he was little, from a cute smile to a handsome grin. Pictures in their graduation cap and gowns, more baby pictures, lined the hallway. Becca found herself smiling looking at these pictures, when the door to Jason's room opened, he stepped out wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans which were a bit baggy, and white Nike sneakers. Pulling out his sunglasses, he placed it on his head and walked towards Becca. He stopped next to her and snickered when he looked at his family portrait with his mom.
"I could say those were the good old days. Nothing to worry about, being happy and loved all the time. I wish my mom could smile like that again." Jason stared at the picture. She felt her skin go hot, as he looked at her."
"Um uh, your eyes are back to normal."
"Hmm?" Jason looked at the miniature mirror on the wall and inhaled sharply. Damn! I look so damn pale!
"You don't look that bad, but if you've seen how you looked when I walked in." Becca shook her head, "You looked creepy."
"Why, my eyes looked blood shot?" Jason made a crooked grin when he turned away from the mirror. Becca stared at him as he admired his ring. The gold and the lapis lazuli reflected off the lamplight next to him. The muscles on his arms moved as he rotated his wrist.
Becca pulled her eyes away from admiring his tanned arms, his tattoos popped out more on his forearms. Slowly letting her breath out, she pulled her bag higher on her shoulder and started to walk towards the door.
"Wait. I'm heading out with you." Jason grabbed his watch then checked his pockets. "I have a s**t load of questions to ask, so I'm going to be like glue to you now." Grabbing the keys he walked behind her and locked the door.
