The Past.

It was around midnight when I woke up. Mira wasn’t with me probably with Kaden. I hoped so. The moonlight spilled across my face through the window, and suddenly I remembered the letter. I shot up. “Oh f**k, f**k, f**k…” My chest was rising fast, breath shallow. Curiosity was winning over fear. But I was scared. What now? What could he possibly have to say this time? With trembling hands, I grabbed the letter and unfolded it. --- My dear Savanah, I hope you're doing well. As always, there’s not much to do here without you. I just came back from my uncle’s. The days are full of routine now. Every day brings something new something else I have to learn about running a pack. I can feel the weight of it settling on my shoulders. I feel like I’ve become someone else. Trying to figure things out without you is draining me, but I’m staying focused. Staying positive. Because one day, I know we’ll see each other again. Your parents are doing well. They miss you. I can tell, even though they try to hide it pretend it’s normal that you’re not here. But their eyes don’t smile. They keep to themselves on their days off, sometimes show up at the pack’s feasts for a few minutes. But they’re still strong, still training, still doing their duties so my dad doesn’t give them a hard time. I don’t even know if you’re reading this if my letters ever reach you. You never respond. But I’ll keep writing. We all miss you. I miss you. Please… come home soon. Your dearest friend, Dean --- By the time I finished reading, I was crying. Silent tears streamed down my cheeks, soaking into the blanket clutched in my fists. What should I do now? My heart feels shattered broken into pieces too small to put back together. And my parents… they’re devastated. For what? For him? I hate the Alpha. I hate him for everything he’s done… and for everything he didn’t do. Why is he so angry with me? What did I do to deserve this? I never asked for any of this. I never wanted to be different. So why am I the one being punished? "flashback" "Dean, stop. You can't do that! Dean, please!" I was crying, watching him beat Derek without mercy. I didn’t know what to do. So I stepped closer, placing my hand on Dean’s shoulder. With a trembling voice, I whispered, “Dean, stop… please.” It was like magic. My touch froze him. He looked at me like he was waking up from a trance. His fist was still in the air, ready to strike, but he stopped his wide eyes locked on mine. “Oh God, Sav… don’t cry. I’m sorry.” He was by my side in a second, pulling me into his arms, whispering sweet nothings to calm me down. My fists clutched his shirt. “What have you done, Dean? Why?” He looked at me, confused. “What do you mean why? Derek was hitting on you. You said no. He should have accepted that. But he's an idiot.” Derek was unconscious on the ground, blood dripping from his mouth. “Dean!” My parents, the Alpha, and the Luna came running toward us. Dean only held me tighter. My parents looked confused and worried. The Alpha looked furious. “What is this?” my dad asked sternly. “He was hitting on her. She said no, but he didn’t stop,” Dean replied, his voice laced with anger. “Stop hugging her, son. Give her to her parents,” the Alpha ordered coldly. Dean didn’t move. The Alpha’s eyes darkened. With a threatening tone, he repeated, “Let her go.” My dad tried to pull me away from Dean, but Dean growled at him. Everyone froze in shock. Then my mom stepped forward, and reluctantly, Dean let go. His eyes never left mine. “Was that necessary, son? Explain yourself.” “I told him he was wrong. He should have listened to Savanah.” “And there was no other way to handle this? Look at him! He’s bleeding and lying in the dirt!” “And?” “And?! Are you serious?” the Alpha snapped. “This is not how a future Alpha should behave. I’m very disappointed in you, Dean.” I was crying again in my parents’ arms. This was all because of me. I should have just stayed quiet. I... Dean and the Alpha were arguing louder and louder. Everyone at the party was watching us, whispering, curious. The Luna gave a nervous smile and stepped between them. “Enough, both of you,” she said gently. “Let’s continue this in the office. Honey, Dean,” she added, looking between her mate and her son. “Someone call the doctor. We’re taking Derek to the hospital,” she ordered calmly. “Please, can someone help me?” Her voice reasoned with the crowd, bringing back order. The Luna dragged Dean and the Alpha into the packhouse. The crowd slowly began to disperse. Derek’s parents rushed to him as the warriors carried him to the hospital. I could still feel the emotions in the air anger, confusion, curiosity. And I let my parents take me home. The silence in the car was deafening. No one said a word. Not Mom. Not Dad. Not me. I stared out the window, watching the trees blur past, but my thoughts were louder than any storm. What just happened? Why did Dean look at me like that? His eyes were cold and distant I could barely recognize him. I had never seen him like this before. What did I do to him? I could still feel the sting of his words, the coldness in his voice. It didn’t make sense. None of this did. My chest tightened. I wanted to scream, to cry, to ask a million questions. But I stayed quiet. Because I knew… If I opened my mouth, everything would spill out. And I wasn’t ready for that. Not yet.
