The Council.

"Unknown POV" "So, the Ironclaw Pack has issues now?" Elder Samuel's voice echoed through the room, laced with mockery. "I didn’t expect Alpha Edward to lose control of his own territory." "With all due respect, Alpha, the situation was reported by his son, Dean," Luna Elena spoke calmly, stepping in to defend her nephew. "Which raises the question—why did it have to be the young Alpha who contacted us?" Alpha Theodor chimed in, folding his arms. "I believe Dean is simply impatient. He’s trying to push his father out of power in a more subtle way. After all, Alpha Edward is still strong. I’m sure he can handle his affairs without our interference. Dean just lacks the courage to challenge him directly. It’s a cowardly attempt at gaining control." Luna Elena stood abruptly, anger flashing in her eyes. "Alpha Theodor, are you implying that my nephew is dishonorable? Have you forgotten everything he’s done for this council? Each and every one of us owes him, whether for greater or smaller favors. Alpha Lukas, Luna Maria—was it not Dean and his warriors who came to your children's aid when the Rogue attacked after you stepped down? Dean has always acted with integrity, whether in trade negotiations or forming alliances. Let’s be honest—my brother hasn’t spoken with this council in years. Dean has been leading the pack and handling all affairs himself..." "With all due respect, Luna Elena," Alpha Michael interrupted, his tone smug. "Do you really expect us to believe that Alpha Edward isn’t aware of what his son is doing? Yes, we communicate mostly with Dean, but that doesn’t mean it’s not under his father’s supervision. Alpha Edward is no fool—he’s simply preparing his son for leadership. And by the way, it seems you’re the only one here lacking recent information. In fact, I’ve been in close contact with Alpha Edward. I’ll be visiting him in a few days—with my daughter Helen. I didn’t want to ruin the surprise before our children could announce it themselves, but I see I have no choice." With a twisted smile, he delivered the final blow. "My daughter Harper and Dean are getting engaged. Neither of them has found their mate, so they’ve chosen each other." You could hear a pin drop in the silence that followed. Luna Elena stared at him in disbelief, shaking her head. "No... that’s not possible. I would know." "I believe I know what’s happening in my daughter’s life better than anyone—except perhaps her mother," Alpha Michael replied coldly. Some of the elders sat in awkward silence, while others quietly enjoyed the humiliation Luna Elena had just suffered. Meanwhile, I remained silent in my seat. I knew something had been off with my sister and brother-in-law in recent years—ever since Frostbite Pack fell. Edward had grown secretive and withdrawn, and my sister began mirroring his behavior. Sadly, Elena either hadn’t noticed or refused to acknowledge it. But she was right about one thing—Dean was an honorable Alpha. Every insult thrown at him today came from fear and the incompetence of these corrupted elders. For now, I had to keep playing their game—silent, invisible, pretending to agree. But I was tired of the lies, the secrecy, the decisions made from greed rather than wisdom. The Council of Elders was meant to be a circle of former Alphas and Lunas—those who had stepped down to support the new generation. But instead, greed and hunger for power have poisoned it. Those with sense keep quiet out of fear that if they speak up, their packs might share Frostbite’s fate. But everything has its limits. And perhaps it’s time for a new order to rise. "What do you say, Lucien?" With a rehearsed smile, I turned to Michael. "I suppose congratulations are in order—for Harper and my nephew. This news certainly surprised me. But as you know, I’ve had little contact with my sister and Alpha Edward. Our packs are on opposite sides of the territory, and visits have been rare, which is a shame for family. Still, may this union bring strength and prosperity to both sides." I raised my wine glass. Michael followed suit, clearly pleased with my performance. I don’t know what Dean hopes to accomplish, but knowing my nephew, he’s not the kind of Alpha to challenge the Moon Goddess—or to play dirty. Whatever he’s planning... he just gained a new ally.
