After going over everything once more, Flora’s mum decided that they were ready to take flight.
“Alright, Flora, I think you’ve got it all now. It’s time to go see Nana! What a wonderful surprise it will be for her!”, Mum said as they neared the end of their garden.
Mum grabbed Flora’s little hand as they stood right on their tippy-toes. As soon as Mum counted up to three, they jumped off the edge.
Flora felt a huge gust of wind as though from beneath their feet and quickly slammed her eyes shut. But then she took a peak from behind her eyelids and saw that she was actually flying. She had done it! Flora the fairy was finally flying on her fairy wings.
As Flora continued to look around her, she realised just how high up they were and begun to panic. Quick, sharp breaths was all she could manage.
And now her wings weren’t flapping quite so quickly. Flora was in a full-blown panic now but she suddenly felt a squeeze on her left hand and her mother’s calm, soothing voice.
“You’re alright Flora. Just remember what I said. You’re brave enough to do this and I’m right here with. Just keep your eyes focused straight ahead of you. And remember, we’re taking this flight to see Nana, right. Think about how happy she will be to see you! There you go, Flora!”, Mum soothed, “You’re brave, focused and you’re going to make Nana so happy. See, you’re flying just fine now!”
Truly, Flora had regained control of her flight. She just had to remember those three most important lessons.
