Chapter 2:
The doubt inside me became impossible to ignore.
One day, I gathered enough courage to ask him directly.
“Do you have a wife?”
At first, he denied it again. Calmly. Effortlessly. As if lying to me cost him nothing.
But I kept asking questions. I pressed him for answers, refusing to let the truth hide behind his silence. Finally, after what felt like forever, he admitted it.
“Yes… I’m married.”
Those words shattered something inside me.
My chest felt unbearably heavy, and tears gathered in my eyes before I could stop them. I confronted him, asking why he lied to me and why he allowed me to grow attached when he already belonged to someone else.
He explained that he and Elly were already separated. According to him, she had moved to another city, and their relationship was no longer working. He spoke as though everything between them was already over, as though his marriage existed only on paper.
Part of me wanted to walk away that very moment.
But another part of me — the weaker, more emotional part — wanted to believe him.
Later, I asked him who else knew about us. Since our connection had been kept secret, I assumed nobody else was aware.
He answered casually.
“Only Josh knows.”
His words surprised me. I felt both shocked and uneasy. How could another person know about us while I remained completely unaware of the reality I had stepped into?
That was when I first realized how deeply tangled everything already was.
