While waiting for an egg to hatch wasn’t the most exciting of tasks, these things were just part of the job. Perhaps it wasn’t glamorous or exhilarating like working with large dragons or feeding the big sphinxes, but not everything about working with animals was like that. There was plenty of waiting around, forms and paperwork to fill out, and all kinds of hoops to jump through. Still, it was all worth it for the privilege of getting to work with these mythical animals and the joy I got from it. Even waiting for the phoenix chick to hatch was a good lesson in patience and the building anticipation added excitement to it all.
