I assisted Jacob every day with Apollo’s care, reluctantly counting down until his departure date. Since most of his injuries were superficial, he healed quickly and after multiple meetings with the keepers and directors, it was decided that he would be relocated. The Myth & Monster conservation had space to take him in after one of their phoenixes died last year and promised a full party of hens and the companionship of other drakes. There was a good chance that Apollo would love it there and I was excited for him. Mostly.
To make the transfer easier, two phoenix keepers from the conservation came over to meet Apollo and get familiar with his needs. It was sad that he had to leave but knowing he’d be in good hands took some of the sting out.
