“I can’t believe you’d be so stupid as to leave the palace for a ‘couple’ of days and without guards!” yelled the Wolf King – Kai Franklin. His wolf was just at the surface. He was so angry and worried about his firstborn and only daughter taking off before she was to meet her fiancé. He was also faced with the shame that came with this escapade of hers.
“Persephone, honey, why did you need to leave?” Queen Lailani calmly asked her daughter while giving her husband a warning glance.
Persephone was the Wolf Princess and approaching twenty years old. She was supposed to be studying to ascend to the Queen and Luna position for their kingdom and a pack she was supposed to unite with. Like all royal stories of the Princess being married off to some royal or noble in order to unite packs, territories or countries, etcetera, she wasn’t happy about it. She didn’t want to go along with it. She didn’t even know the Alpha she was supposed to be married to or what he looked like. Her parents seemed more concerned with their own agenda and that angered her because it wasn’t them being handed off like some bought item off of a*****e shelf. They didn’t seem to care what she thought until after she possibly shamed them by taking off to the California coast. She looked at them looking at her and waiting for a response. She needed to think carefully about answering them because her mini-trip had turned into the night of the rest of her life and she wanted him back.
“Well, you both are aware I wasn’t happy about the announcement of me getting married to some random Alpha I’ve never even met and I needed to get away to clear my head. After a lot of thought, I’ve come back to tell you that I don’t want to marry whoever it is you have lined up. I want to further my studies and travel a bit. I also want to find my mate. Your agendas have nothing to do with me and if you want to unite some areas then you’ll need to do it on your own. I hope you will respect my decisions and we can move forward with this.” Persephone stated in a calm and ‘matter-of-fact’ tone. Both of her parents looked at each other in disbelief. Their non-response to her proclamation triggered her to curtsey and leave the dining room. She made her way back to her room. The Omegas bowed to her as she passed and she greeted everyone like she would anyone else. She made it a point to treat everyone with the same equality as everyone else. Her parents not so much. Her little brother sometimes acted like he was high on the hog, but when he was around her it was a different story and he would be humble and polite.
A few hours had passed and she was busy in her room packing her things. She was determined to set out on her adventures and studies as she had intended to and was not about to change her mind for anyone. She took a seat on the bed and closed her eyes for a quick break and a memory of her time with her mystery man. He was gorgeous and everything she could have ever hoped for. That moment they shared was forever burned into her mind. She shivered with the memory. Everything about him was absolutely perfect in her mind. His scent, his breath, his body was something that was only chiseled out and created by Gods. If only she had gotten his name or any information, but they remained anonymous to each other except for what they shared. Her fingers touched her lips to try to remember his kiss. She got back up to continue packing. There was a knock at the door.
“Come in.”
“Hi Kaikua’ana.” (Older sister)
“Oh! Hi Kaikunane. (Brother) What’s up? I thought you’d be training with the guards.”
“I was pulled from training and heard you are leaving. Mom and dad are pretty upset at your declaration. I-I’m going to miss you.” Prince Koa looked at his sister with puppy eyes. Tears were starting to well up. He threw himself at his sister to wrap her in a hug. Persephone hugged him tight and kissed him on the head.
“I have to do this Koa. I can’t accept someone choosing my life for me. I can think for myself and be myself without shaming or embarrassing the family. When you get older I know you will be the same. I am almost done and will be on my way. I will be back sooner than later. I promise.” Persephone hugged and kissed her brother one last time. He gave her one last loving glace not realizing it would be longer than he had ever expected to be away from his sister. He left her room and made his way back to training. Persephone watched him walk out of her room and no sooner had he shut the door about of nausea hit her and she was running to the bathroom. She made it to the toilet just in time.
‘No! It can’t be! I can’t be!’ Persephone kept repeating over and over in her mind. It wasn’t rocket science. It was simple biology. The timeline was spot on. She had no doubt she was pregnant. As she continued to pray to the porcelain God, her parents walked in with looks of worry and panic drawn on their faces. Her dad looked at her with accusing eyes. Her mom sniffed the air. They exchange glances and then looked at their Persephone.
In the most ominous low tone her father could gather to keep his composure he said, “What have you done? Do you realize you were supposed to meet your fiancé today despite your declaration earlier? You left for those couple of days and mated …. Is that why you are leaving? Are you insane?! Do you realize the shame you have brought upon us with this bastard child you are now carrying?” He was breathing steadily and heavily. His fur rippled. “Who is he? Why hasn’t he marked you if he is your mate? Where is he? So I can rip his f*****g head from his body!” He finally started yelling as if he was a teapot. Persephone looked at him incredulously and waited for the steam to come out of his ears from how mad he was.
“We can fix this.” Queen Lailani exclaimed. “I am VERY disappointed in you young lady. I can’t believe you would do this knowing your life situation.” Lailani looked at her husband and then back at her daughter.
Persephone wiped the little bit of vomit from her mouth and was now seething with anger and disbelief in her parents. “I GET TO CHOOSE MY LIFE! NOT YOU! My BASTARD child is mine! I did mate! The Goddess brought us together and we mated! I don’t know who he is, but I regret NOTHING! How dare you both! Fix this? Really mother?! What is there to fix? Huh? This is MY LIFE! MINE! Not yours! My things are packed and I am leaving. MOVE!” Persephone’s voice boomed and shook the walls of her bathroom. Her parents had not ever seen her like this and their looks of anger and disappointment turned to horror. They parted to make way for her to pass by. Persephone never made it past the door threshold. She felt a prick in her neck and the world faded to darkness.
