Chapter 15: Being watched

1529 Words
I wasted no time in making sure I was ready to go. Johnny didn’t lie when he said someone would be coming to get me and within less than ten minutes there he was at my door escorting me out by my arm. I walked and showed no emotion. I acted like I was on autopilot or a robot so I wouldn’t have to see anyone. I didn’t want to put anyone in danger and if I didn’t pay attention then I could block out any screams or pleas. Not that anything like that was happening, but just in case. I stayed quiet and let Johnny do all of the talking. I just needed to be on land before I fought my way to freedom. “It would seem that the Fates are against us tonight. There is a heavy fog and there is a hurricane heading this way. We are docked in New York. This certainly changes things. This will also make things a lot harder to get you to our destination point, my lady.” Johnny tugged on my arm to move faster, but I purposely made it seem like it was a chore and was unable to keep up because of my pregnancy. The truth was I wanted to be carried to get me closer to his or whoever was carrying me. Their face would make an easy enough target and give me time to slip away. “Hurry up! If you are unable to move any faster I will have to carry you or drag you!” A very deep voice came into play and took me by surprise. “She is not to be hurt or harmed in any way or you die.” The voice came from sounded so familiar. I slowly turned to see who it was and I couldn’t hide the look of surprise. “Lance? But … I thought … you were” my voice trailed off. Lance looked at me with narrowed eyes. “There is a rather large price tag on you and your baby that can’t be ignored or overlooked and when I found out who you were it was an opportunity I just couldn’t pass up. I’ll be more powerful and rich than I ever could have dreamed. My family will be set and I find myself being able to sleep well at night knowing what I’ve done to get there. To think, I’m just another pond in the whole grand scheme of things. The real one in charge is a High Lord Vampire. Clouse can’t even keep his own people loyal to him. They have no problem turning on him in the blink of an eye.” Lance looked thoughtful at what he said and the realization of how everything seemed to be going as planned except for the fog. “Wow. Good for you Lance. Karma never disappoints.” I sighed as I said this walking with Johnny. Lance was going to say something, but we heard a loud honk and damn near got clipped by a sea train. I seized the moment and took the ‘opportunity’ to make my great escape. I open-palmed my hand into Johnny’s nose instantly breaking it and making him tear up. He dropped me in a heartbeat. Lance had lunged for me, but I sidestepped him and his own momentum sent him sailing into the water. I ran. I ran hard. I ran fast. I could hear them trying to pull together and get others to join them in searching for me. I climbed aboard another ship without being caught as it was leaving the dock. It was a cargo ship and finding me would be impossible now. I was also stuck where I was. I made my way inside the ship and discovered a vacant room. I made myself cozy for the time being. I made sure it was locked and no one could get in either. I decided to rest for a moment and soon I was drifting off to sleep. I don’t know how long I was out or what day it is. I managed to get up and have a look around. I moved silently. I realized very quickly that I was on a ship headed for India. I had snuck around and dressed like one of the shipmates to move around easier. We finally arrived at our destination. I think the crew knew who I was, but left me alone. What had seemed like forever was only a couple of weeks. Upon leaving I had the weirdest feeling I was being watched. I had tried to reach Clouse more than enough times but to no avail. The mind-link apparently did have a certain distance where we could no longer be reached. Thankfully, I had managed to keep my I.D., Visa, and debit card, so I made my way to a bank. In less than an hour, I was able to pull out more than enough money, have a car come to pick me up and a real estate agent assist me with looking for something small, quaint, and out of the way. I didn’t want to draw unnecessary attention. I booked a room at a presentable hotel for the night and ate delicious food. I felt free. I felt sad. I also felt watched. The next day I closed the deal on a small home and had a decorator come in and fill in the interior. I know that if Clouse or my parents looked into my accounts they would see where I was and it wouldn’t be long before someone came for me. Once my house was turned into a home I laid down and fell into a deep sleep. I woke up the next day and felt refreshed. India is a very busy and polluted place, but sometimes you have to just go with the flow and find beauty in every situation. That is exactly what I did. I immersed myself in their culture and started learning about my surroundings. Now and again I’d get that creepy feeling again and would look around to find no one watching or caring. If there was it was hard to spot because there were just that many people. The beautiful colors and gold were absolutely stunning. Their religion was tragic, peaceful, and beautiful. I really was enjoying the environment. I decided to check out the local school and learn some more about their culture and diversity. I also downloaded the free language app onto a new phone I bought so I could speak to others. I thought about calling home, Clouse or somebody, but I was afraid it would alert other paranormal beings and bring ruckus here to my new area. I needed to keep my nose clean by laying low in a way and blending in. I also waited for someone to come, but as the days passed, I realized no one was coming. A month later….. No one ever showed up. I didn’t feel happy about it and I didn’t feel sad either. In fact, I decided for the safety of my child I’d just keep living this simple and quiet life. I became fully engaged with my neighborhood and local eateries. My belly was bigger. Life was easier and there wasn’t any drama. I decided to stay home more nowadays. I had my local neighbors help me out by getting me groceries and do things for me that would typically require me to leave the house. I tended to a small garden I created. That was about as outdoors as I was getting. Other than that I remained a hermit. I just kept getting an eerie feeling of being watched. When I was home the feeling would go away, but when I went out I felt like I was being preyed on and stalked. It was just so awkward it would sometimes give me an anxiety attack. There was no denying that old magic was all around me. I just didn’t know who or what and that was the most nerve-wracking and disturbing part to me. My neighborhood is pretty awesome. Someone is always home. Most of the neighbors sell right on our block or outside of their homes. Others leave for regular jobs. My neighbors make me feel somewhat normal in a very strange world. I really feel safe here. Some of the neighbors have also tried to befriend me, but I make sure to keep my distance. I don’t want anyone getting hurt later down the road. I also have to be careful because I am halfway through my pregnancy. I don’t want to put my baby or myself in any danger. Even though I know my neighbors I don’t actually know them and I have a feeling it is one of them that is watching me.
