Coffee Shop Letter

Chapter 16

There in front of me stood my boss, Xavier Black. He was my mystery man all along. I was left speechless, never in a million years would I ever think that he was the one writing to me all this time. I should have guessed this a long time ago even Matty suspected it was him.

"Ava" I was snapped out of my thinking when he called my name. 

"Mr. Black, you're my mystery man?" 

He gave me a smile and a nod of his head. "Yes. Please call me Xavier, were not in the office. I know this is a little weird, but I promise its no joke. Besides, I liked you before you got the job at the office."

Somehow I believed him that this wasn't a joke. I was just confused, why me when he had Bella. Remember he told her it was all fake.

"Oh, these are for you." I took the roses from him, smelling them. For some reason, they calmed my nerves. Plus, knowing I indeed know Xavier I could relax and enjoy the night. Was it strange to actually like the idea of mystery man being my boss? He was a good looking guy.

"Thank you, but I have so many questions right now."

"That's fine love. I have all night to answer any of your questions. Why don't we go get food from this diner nearby?"

"I'd like that." I was going to make the most of this night. Xavier being my boss could be a problem later on if we were to take our relationship to the more than friends stage. 

Arriving at the diner, the first thing I noticed was the inside decor. The theme of the diner was like something from the '50s. I'm surprised I've never been here before. We sat down and took a few minutes to look over the menu. Shortly a waitress approached us and took down our order. I wasn't sure what to ask just yet, but he beat me to talking.

"I first off want to say, the moment I saw you working in the coffee shop, I just had to get to know you better. I was afraid that with me being a businessman, you wouldn't have wanted to get to know me. That is why I started writing the letters."

Our food had just arrived, and I knew it was time to start asking questions. We weren't even five minutes into eating before his phone rang. I wasn't going to be a b***h and not let him answer it. I knew being a CEO some calls were important and couldn't be missed. I sent him a smile letting him know I didn't mind at all. 

"Black" I watched him take his phone call when suddenly his facial expression changed. I couldn't decipher what it was though, and I could only hear his side of the conversation. "What?" was his next response. Then the name I heard next made me wish I never let him take that call. "Bella, calm down, I'm on my way." 

Before anything else was said, he was standing up when he looked at me. "I have to go."

I tried hiding the hurt on my face, but it was inevitable. Xavier didn't seem to notice, as he was out the door faster than anything. He left me in the middle of this for Bella, making me pay for everything. I lost my appetite and asked the waitress for the bill. I just wanted to get home and go to sleep. I knew it was too good to be true, but I was naive and fell for it all over again. 

I stopped at Deb's, asking her if I could have tomorrow off. The moment Deb saw me, she knew something was wrong but didn't say anything about it. I was thankful for that because I didn't want to break down, as of yet. Luckily, Deb had enough staff already working, and I was free to have the day off. 

When I arrived home, I took care of Remy and made myself a bed on the couch. We laid there watching some t.v., before falling asleep. 

Morning came quick, and I felt let down. Today I needed to make a change to something and spoil myself. It was a last-minute decision, but I decided to get rid of my silver hair. I needed to feel more confident about myself and what more than a small change.

Four hours later, I was walking out of the salon with my hair looking like a sunset. The top started as a deep red then faded out to orange and then yellow. While getting my hair done, I decided to do something different, and I got my nails done.

Matty was going to freak out when he sees me tomorrow for our dinner night. I never told him what I was doing, nor did I let him know how the date went.

Work. 

That place you go to for five days a week and eight hours a day.

That was what today was, and I was not ready to face him. I thought finding out he was my mystery writer would make things weird at work, but I was wrong. Xavier ditching me for his ex-girlfriend is what's going to make things weird or even awkward. The best thing to do was act as if it didn't hurt me. I put my trust back into him just for it to be thrown out the window.

Arriving at work, I got a few compliments on my new look. I decided to leave my hair down in waves and my face free of makeup. My outfit consisted of grey pants that flared at the bottom paired with a long sleeve blouse and a grey vest that matched the pants. 

Sitting at my desk, I threw out the flowers that were in the vase. No need for them anymore, and besides they were dying. 

Right away, I started doing my morning task, which was checking Mr. Black's schedule. When I heard the ding of the elevator go off, I willed myself to not lookup. Praying he would go straight to his office instead of stopping at the desk I wasn't so lucky. 

"Who are you?" Now I had no choice but to look up at him. He obviously didn't know it was me seeing as I had my head down. When I looked up, shock was written all over his face. 

"Miss Parker?" 

"Good morning Mr. Black. Is there anything you need?" The reminder in the back of my head was on repeat saying Don't be a b***h.

Xavier looked like someone had stolen his puppy, but I had to remind myself now is not the time. Things needed to be professional at the office and nothing more. 

With a frown on his face, he shook his head no and went into his office, not saying a word. That's how the rest of my day went at work, both of us ignoring each other. Although every time he came out, he'd stop and look at me for a few seconds before he walked away. It looked like things were going to tense between the two of us for a little while.
