Chapter Two

(Some months later) Aaliyah's POV Three agonizing months had gone by since I had moved in as Alpha Orion's wife and my life has turned from bad to worse. An antagonizing nightmare. As I approached his study, my heart pounded frantically in my chest. It has always been like that from day one and nothing had really changed about what I felt around him. Fear. Gut sickening fear, and It seemed to even grow worse after he had recovered. Because this time, his threats of hitting me at any slightest mistake was no less than a threat anymore. I had wounds inflicted on me, scars maning my malnourished body, bearing testament to his torture. I was treated even less inhumanely than how the Omegas were treated here. “What do you want?” His voice was gruff and cold as he met my eyes with his eccentric blue ones from where he sat on his desk. Alpha Orion was every inch handsome, powerful and has an aura of authority and intimidation around him with his stubble and hardened glare. This man was my husband. I was surprised to be proud that our of all the women who could have had him, I was his. Yet, this man has hated me in first sight. He hated my skin color, he hates the sight of me, everything I did, I did to satisfy him but he never reciprocated the love I showered him. I tried as best as I could to ensure he recovers. I never gave up in him even when the Pack doctors had lost hope on healing him and in a matter of weeks, he was up from the bed and giving orders like he hadn't been on the brink of death some time ago. I cooked for this man, I stayed up all night just to watch him sleep and ensure he wasn't uncomfortable. I helped him bath by dabbing his body up with a towel soaked in warm water since he could barely move. Alpha Orion wouldn't be here today without me, and yet, I was never given credit for anything i did. He never acknowledged anything I did not offer a single word of gratitude. Instead, he sent me off to do the house chores. At the slightest mistake, I would be hit or beaten or sent to the dungeons for days without food till I passed out. The torments and punishments were endless. I was reduced to an Omega, even lower than that because the Omegas barely regarded me as their Luna and mistreated me like I was a commoner. They made jest of my appearance, called me a freak. They stripped away any remnants of self-worth or confidence. I dressed in oversized rags, hiding my body and my pain beneath layers of fabric, only letting my eyes remain visible to aid me in doing the chores in the house. My fear knew no bounds as I sought for the words to speak. His hateful glare usually caused me to be at loss for words. “If you have nothing to say, get out of my sight. Unlike you, I have important things to do.” He growled angrily, already looking away from me like the sight of me disgusted him. I rubbed my shoulder awkwardly, dragging the hem of the large cloak I wore over my hand, something I was used to doing when I was nervous. “I- I finished, I mean… I’m done with my chores.” He gave me a disregarding look as he turned back to the files, flipping through the pages before looking at the time. “It's 6:45PM. You had all morning and this is when you're just finishing up. You're getting even more lazy. You have free shelter, food and clothing and you can't even do something properly.” I just bowed my head without a word, knowing anything I might say might offend him and lead him to punish me. “If your done, then you can leave. You can start tomorrow.” He dismissed me. “I haven't eaten all morning,” I felt my mouth run dry when he glared at me, but the hunger gnawing in my stomach pushed me to continue. “If I don't eat any second, I… I might die. Please Alpha, I'm so hungry.” He looked at me for some time and I contemplated regretting my words and just leaving until he grunted, a mocking smirk on his face. “You can have the leftovers from the fridge downstairs.” I thank him profusely as I rush downstairs to take out the leftovers. They were still cold and looked like they belonged to the trash, but in my eyes they were the most delicious mouth watering food I've ever tasted. I took them to the dining room and sat on the floor, eating like I haven't seen food in years. I wasn't privileged to use the chairs and tables, especially after I had cleaned them, and I had learnt it the hard way. It didn't take too long for me to realize my place in the pack, but it still hurt. Suddenly, a woman walked into the building, dragging a trolley behind her. Curious, I raised my head and took in her exquisite beauty and prominent aura. She looked beautiful, quite a contrast to me sitting on the floor and eating cold leftovers. She wore heels and skimpy clothes that accentuated her curves, a stark contrast to my modest attire. I watched her cautiously, unsure of who she was, until Alpha Orion descended the stairs, a smile spread on his face. A smile which I had never seen before, a smile I had yearned for, yet never received it. Now I got to witness him smile so lovingly for the first time, but it wasn't directed at me but the woman. “Vivian.” He called out as he closed the distance between them. “Babe.” The woman called and right before me, they embraced each other before they shared a deep, intimate kiss that left my jaw dropping from shock. Vivian? I had heard her name from the lips of the Omegas. They had always told me a time like this would come when she would appear in Orion's life again. Vivian was Orion's first love. His true mate. And she was back.
