Ethan pushed open the door to his grandmother's house, the familiar warmth and the scent of baked cookies wrapping around him but today, it felt different, he felt a heavy weight on his shoulder.
His grandmother looked up from the kitchen when he stepped inside.
“Ethan, how did it go? Were you able to get something?” his grandmother asked, her eyes searching his face for any sign of hope.
Ethan let out a deep sigh and dropped his bag on the floor. “No, Grandma.” He threw himself onto the couch, burying his face in his hands. “I didn't get anything at all. Her parents had some theory but, nothing enough to save the situation.”
