Clara's POV
"Make sure to prepare the ledger for the A&C report, we have to be done before Monday." I said listing instructions to my P.A.
"Okay Ma, have a nice weekend."
"You too." I replied walking out of my office.
Nice weekend? I would try as much as I can to enjoy this one. I walked to my car and got in as the driver put the car to life.
Since my return from Germany the previous year, I had been able to revive the fallen company I met, I had been so busy that everytime I looked at the result of my hard work, I beamed with smiles, it had paid off at the end, not only was it one of the leading company in the states, it wasn't the second.
"We're home Ma." The driver called out, interrupting my thought.
"Thank you Nelson." I said while coming out of the car.
The mansion was looking new, I had instructed painters to add a new tone of it's original color, something to give it more life.
"Mummy!" A little girl squealed as she came running down the patio.
"Aurora." I called back as I covered her in a hug. "My princess, I've missed you." I said planting kisses all over her face.
"Mummy, I really missed you, Germany wasn't the same without you, Grandma had to end the vacation."
I laughed, I knew my daughter to be one who spilled the tea Even before she was asked.
"Speaking of your Grandma, where's she?" I asked looking round the house, hoping to see her at her favorite position at the pool.
"She's inside making Dinner." She announced happily " your favorite"
I returned her smile and held her hands as we walked inside the house.
I saw her, My mom, Mrs Fiona, the woman that had given me a reason to stay strong. My savior, she had placed fortune into my palm and hugged me with a smile.
She was the reason Aurora and I would be happy for a long time, the reason I went to Germany for years ago to start a course in business administration and also birth my child.
"Look who we have here, our very own workaholic." She said pulling me in for a hug.
"Mum." I said hugging her back. "I've missed you."
"Maybe if you had stayed longer in Germany before rushing back home to work, we would have been singing a different tune but I missed you too."
"You know the company needs me around, I had no choice."
"I understand my love, that's why I've made you your favorite dish, go and freshen up so you can join us at the table."
"Okay ma."
I went upstairs to my room and took off every clothing I had on me, looking at myself in the mirror, my eyes fell on the scar under my abdomen. It has been four years but it still served as a reminder of the betrayal.
I turned away from the mirror and entered the shower, this was the time to think about things that weren't important, I turned on the shower and let the water remind me of the happy life I was living now.
"Thank you for joining us." My mother said when I came back downstairs to join them at the table. "Thank you Lord for this food, thank you for the happiness we have, thank you for Clara and Aurora, please continue to protect all what you have given us."
"Amen." We all said in Unison and continued eating in silence.
"Child, there's this ball I was supposed to attend tomorrow, it's for the company but you know the doctor said I can't move around much, you'll have to attend in my place." My mum said scooping her rice onto her mouth.
"Okay ma, tomorrow, right?"
"I'm happy you didn't decline at the mention of the Ball, you'll have to look your best Tomorrow, I'll call the stylists over."
"Is that necessary ma?" I asked.
"Yes, you have to make a statement tomorrow."
"Can I come?" Aurora asked pouting.
"Of course you can." My mum said before I could answer.
This was the first Ball I was attending in years, I had sworn off social gatherings but this time, it was an obligation that I had to carry out.
I looked forward to it.
~•~
The hall was filled with other invited guests drinking or just socializing,I already had a table reserved for me.
I held Aurora's hands as we walked through the hall led by a security guy to our seat. This kind of events haven't really been my forte so I avoided them at any chance I got.
"Clara White" someone yelled my name behind me.
I turned to see a business associate we had shared a table more than once at a business event.
"Hi Cassandra." I still remembered her name, something I was really bad at. "It's a surprise seeing you here, I thought you were out of the country?" I said hugging her.
"Yes, I came back in just yesterday. I'm glad you're finally deciding to start attending these events, this was where I met my husband and you look breath taking tonight." She said .
"Thank you."
Her eyes moved to Aurora sitting next to me.
"Is she your daughter?" She asked bending to start a conversation with her.
"Yes."
They exchanged pleasantries till she got up and turned to me.
"You can't just sit down at events like this, come I'll introduce you to people, potential clients in your area of specialty, maybe we can give friendship a chance from here." She said pulling me up.
I followed her, greeting people and introducing Aurora, I was enjoying the night more than I thought, everyone wanted to be associated with White Corporation.
"I'll like to introduce you to someone, he's a big business man and my partner " I had asked the driver to take Aurora home so I could do more socializing.
"In a bit, I need to use the restroom." I said.
"Okay, I'll wait for you near the bar."
"Thank you." I said walking away.
The restroom wasn't hard to locate, I got in and returned to the mirror, trying to adjust my makeup, I looked totally different and beautiful too.
Remembering I had someone waiting for me, I tried bringing out my phone from my pause to check on Aurora when I bumped into someone on my way out, causing my bag to fall.
We both bent down to pick it up when I noticed his features, looking up to his face, my heart leapt to my throat.
Damian!
