Chapter 3 - Marriage contract
"So sorry I am late" she apologized and continued panting.
Alex stared at the girl in disgust. He felt the urge to kick her out, her overall appearance irritated him.
He turned to Timothy, his eyes filled with rage.
Timothy felt the intense glare and he dared not to turn, who would want to anger the great Alex Sterling.
"Let's get married" Alex spoke through gritted teeth as he remembered his predicament.
"Just sign these papers" He stated and Timothy gave the papers to the girl who was finally stable.
Emily collected the papers and glanced through the agreement with shaky hands. She shook her head and returned the papers to him.
"This agreement won't work for me. It's not enough" she stated, this earned her more glare from Alex.
He sat down and crossed his legs then placed his hands across his face.
"You need more money, how much?" he asked disgustedly.
Emily looked down at her feet, she felt shame building up but she knew she had to take this chance.
"I do not need your money," she sighed and looked at him, "I need your protection" she stated feigning boldness.
Alex adjusted himself properly and listened to her, her new suggestion struck him.
"You don't need money. You need protection?" he repeated.
Emily blinked her eyes in discomfort, she felt he was mocking her.
"Yes, I said what I said," she stared into his eyes.
Alex felt something as he stared into her clear silvery eyes.
He raised his hands and waved them at Timothy, he understood and walked out.
"Let's get married first, my PA would do the rest" Alex stated standing up.
Emily shook her head, she couldn't and didn't want to take that risk.
"Mr. Alex, the world speaks of your goodness but I do not trust you enough to sign a blind agreement with you. I can wait" She licked her lips and pushed her hair backward.
Alex was stunned for some seconds but he regained himself and nodded.
He brought out his phone and typed a message but stopped midway.
"What is your name?" he asked softly.
"Emily Hayes" she responded sharply.
Alex nodded and continued typing he was done and sent the message.
'Find out everything about Emily Hayes'
He raised his head and once more, took a long glance at the young lady. Something about her seemed familiar to him, but what?
Timothy walked in and walked straight to Alex, handling the file to him.
Alex reviewed it quickly and gave it to him.
"Help her go through it" he instructed.
Emily collected the file, she was satisfied with the new contract and signed it.
"Now, we can get married, right?" Alex asked and Emily nodded.
They both signed the marriage certificate.
"Let's take a picture" Alex suggested and took a quick picture.
Emily didn't question his purpose, she had gotten what she wanted.
"I would send my men to get your things ready" Alex stated but Emily shook her head.
"No, I would help myself. Just send me your address" She looked at everyone in the room and without waiting for his comments rushed out of the room.
She had a job to catch.
Alex watched the disappearing figure of this razzed girl, his lips curved upwards and he felt a certain fire burn in his heart.
"Timothy, we need to get a ring for my wife," He muttered.
Timothy nodded but replaying the words in his head, he felt his heart skip.
Why was the boss suddenly soft?

Uriel News House
"Where have you been?" Ewan asked, seeing Emily rush in discreetly.
She sat down and as usual, Ron had written his stupid piece and she was to correct or rather, rewrite the whole piece.
"Dad isn't feeling too well" she lied and focused on her work.
Ewan understood she wasn't in the best state of mind, so he stopped and focused on his work.
Emily wrote the first paragraph but then her head went blank, the memories from last night haunted her.
She had never felt fear this close before.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Ewan's slight scream brought her to life.
"Huh?" she turned to him confused but he pointed at her computer.
Emily turned to what she was doing and she noticed that she had deleted everything she had managed to scramble.
She rubbed her neck staring at the blank sheet of paper.
"Are you okay? Let me help" Ewan volunteered and without waiting for her response hacked into her system and began working for her.
Emily smiled, his help was really needed.
Soon, he was done.
Emily only had to edit some things.
"Thank you so much," she said to Ewan as she arranged her bag preparing to leave.
"Let's go out for tea," Ewan suggested.
Emily hung her bag and smiled at him, "That would be lovely maybe, some other time. My treat" she said to him with a smile plastered on her face.
Ewan nodded and helped her carry some files.
"Allow me to hail a cab for you then" Emily nodded at his kind gesture.
She knew what he wanted but she was now married and had a duty to uphold.
After entering the cab, she waved at him and the cab drove off.

Alex's Villa
He sat down on his balcony and watched the girl walk in.
She looked better than before and had a sense of calmness around her.
'Trouble', Alex could smell something from far away.
He entered his room and climbed into his bed. He had already instructed the housekeeper on what should be done, so he was relaxed.
For now!
...
"Thank you" Emily thanked the nice lady who had helped her and also briefed her on the things she needed to know.
"I am Ms. Dani, just in case you need anything" She stated cheerfully.
Emily nodded looking around.
"Home" she muttered.
This was going to be her home for the next 730 days.
She felt her cheek reddened.
She sat on the bed and began unpacking her things. She was careful where she dropped her stuff.
After an hour, she was done setting up. She sat down to rest but noticed a book she hadn't seen before.
She picked it up and her eyes widened when she saw the familiar handwriting.
"Mother!" she called under her breath.
