The Disavowed Promises

Episode 3 - As the prophecy foretold, they will meet again

The youngest member of Alcazar’s is standing in the middle of the rain with pleading eyes. She has a bandage at her right hand, and it was already soaked in the rain. I sent a dagger look to Kade and it looks like he is also surprised that Alyssa is here.

I asked Alyssa to take a bath and change her clothes because she might catch a cold or worst a flu. Kade was already done changing his clothes and just waiting for Alyssa to finish.

“I hope this will never happen again, Kade. Do not involve the children in this mess.” I warned him and went to Alyssa to assist her in changing her clothes and change her wound dressing. I guess she is already 10 years old by now, the last time I saw her, she’s just a little girl who always want lollipops and dolls.

“You’re a big girl now, love.” I commented while I am cleaning her cut.

“Ate Leigh, every single day I always wait for you to come back. Where have you been? You took a long time, too long that I am already tired of crying because you’re not coming home.” Then I heard her sobs, and her tears flow down from her cheeks. I take a deep breath before hugging her and comfort her.

“I am sorry love; I did not inform you that I won’t be coming back to your home anymore. I left for good, Alyssa.” I do not want her to believe that my relationship with her brother can still be fixed. It is better to make her understand the truth rather than make her believe of several lies. When our eyes met, I saw the longing and sadness that filled her heart.

“But Nathaniel told me that you’re coming back. He told me that if I let him cut me, you’ll come back to us.” I did not expect that Nathaniel can go further like this. He’s insane. I finished dressing up her wound and combing her hair. 

When I was about the say my goodbye, Alyssa pleads. “Can you come with us?”

I asked for Kade’s help but his eyes were also begging me. His phone ring several times and when he answered it, he was stunned for a moment. “He’s about to jump from the rooftop.” He said and that’s when I jump to the front seat and Kade drove as fast as he can.

When we arrived, my body is shaking, and I can’t even move my feet. Facing their house is like facing one of the greatest traumas I ever had. Kade hold my hand and guide me to the rooftop. “Please call Louisiana and ask her to pick me up later.” That’s what I said before I push the door that leads to the rooftop.

The brazen lady of the Alcazar’s is now on her knees begging her son not to waste his life. There are no traces of being audacious but all I can see is the soft heart of a mother, afraid of losing his son for a lifetime.

I cannot move my feet or even say a word to stop him. Because deep down inside of me, I wished that he would suffer the same pain I felt years ago. But my conscience won’t let me kill a person just for my own satisfaction.

“Nathaniel” I whispered and I am very sure that he heard me. He looked for me and when our eyes met, he slowly let go the bottle of alcohol and walked towards me. When he’s finally in front of me, ready to hug me, I immediately avert my body from his gesture.

“Leigh” He whispered and lower down his head. This is all I can do, see him from a distance but I can no longer allow him to touch me or let alone hug me or kiss me.

Mrs. Alcazar is now staring at us, waiting for anything to happen. I looked at her with a disgust in my face. “I came here to tell you to stop this madness. I may think you’re really insane if you will not break this off.”

“We’ll get married.” He firmly says and tried to hold me, but I push him away and rolled my eyes. “You’re really insane, Nathaniel. You lost your chance, a long time ago. Now, for the sake of Alyssa, I am asking you nicely to stay away from me and don’t you ever show your face in front of me ever again.” I was about to walk away when he threatened me.

“Then I’ll just kill myself. No one here really cares for me except for you. They all want to control me, but they did not love me even for just a minute.”

“You know what, Nathaniel---”

“Please call me Kane, so I can remember who I was years ago.”

“Whoever the f**k you are, stop ruining my life. I am done with you and with all of your shits. If you want to kill yourself then go. But remember that I will never come back to you even if you do that stupid plan of yours. You’ll just hurt your body and your family. Grow up, Nathaniel.” I said and gathered all my courage to walk away and get out of that scary house.

Alyssa is standing at the end of the stairs. My eyes immediately soften and I came to her and hugged her so tight to relieve the sudden burst of emotion I had a while ago. “Take care of yourself, love. Promise me that you won’t let any man even your brother to hurt you like that. You don’t deserve it, love”

But someone interfere with my conversation to Alyssa.

“Leigh please. Please let’s talk and fix this. I am a fool for treating you harshly 5 years ago but please give me a chance. Please forgive me.” He pleaded. Alyssa held my hand and asked me to be gentle to his brother. I faced Nathaniel and fake a smile at him.

“We’ll talk tomorrow. Make sure that you’re not drunk or smoked a cigarette because I will not face you.” If not for the sake of Alyssa, I will never talk to him ever again. Mrs. Alcazar thank me and offer one of their cars to drive me home but I refused. I won't be indebted to her. 

Louisiana did not fail to pick me up. “What have you just done, Calliope Everleigh?”

“Alyssa begged me. You know that I cannot say no to the child.” I explained and thankfully she offered a bottle of cold water. “I won’t ask more questions. You’re kicking and alive, that’s what important. BUT for Pete’s sake Everleigh, stop making me your servant! Early this day you made me a tour guide then now your driver? Wow! You’re really unbelievable.”

“I’ll treat you the day after tomorrow.” I lazily said and close my eyes.

When we reached my home, I asked her to spend the night with me, but she refused to do so because she has more matters to deal with. What a busy witch. It’s already 2:30 am and I am still wide awake. Ah jetlag sucks!
