Chapter 13
Sarah opened her eyes when she heard the metallic clanging, temporarily disoriented as to her surroundings. When she lifted herself off of the thin mattress of her bottom bunk, her muscles screamed in agony, and she collapsed back down. Her eyes grew moist as the pain took over. She found that if she didn't move, the sharpness in her body would gradually subside to a dull ache, but it was impossible for her to stay motionless as she needed to go to the bathroom. She twisted her head around so that she could see the stainless steel bowl that was her toilet. She focused her gaze on it as she slowly rose.
