Chapter 43
Roman started sweating and wiping his brow with his sleeve as he listened to the latest tape recording from Taylour's law office. Every effort to slow down or scare her off of the Baines murder investigation was having the opposite effect.
"…I need to speak with Mr. Philip Davidson, please." Taylour's voice sounded a bit hollow, but otherwise it was if she was standing in the same room as Roman.
"He's not here right now. Can I please take a message?" came the reply from the receptionist. The other end sounded further away and not as clear, so Roman turned the volume up slightly.
"Does he have voicemail?"
"Yes, he does. One moment, please."
A series of clicks and silence followed, and then Philip's strong and confident pre-recorded message was heard.
