Night comes swiftly, darkening the land. What was once lit in golden light is now shaded in deep purples and grey is now accepting the ambient twinkling light from the stars above. Melchoir watches Raine’s body rise and fall waiting for her to disappear. She wasn’t getting up, and that was the only sign he needed that she wouldn’t be rejoining him.
