Chapter 2

841 Words
When I entered college, I expected to get bullied, but this was not bullying. no. This was an actual attempt of murder. My murder. The girl who was apparently sleeping with an overcoat over her head had a huge frown on her face and was throwing literally everything and anything at me even after I dimmed the lights. So I did what any normal girl would do. "I HAVE TOBLERONE!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. I loved Toblerone but not as much as I loved my life. Suddenly she stopped and we had a moment of silence in our room. "OKAY! I like you 'cause you have food. Now GIVE ME!" She threw herself at me, grabbing my luggage and started her search for the Toblerone which was actually in my sling bag. "Where is it? God, if you are lying I will bury you alive in this room and-" "STOP! I have it here woman! Calm down." I took out the Toblerone and put showed it to her. Her excited face looked so funny that it made me laugh out loud. Like really loud. So loud that she turned her head around to see my face. She joined me and that's how I knew we were going to be good friends. I got to know that her name was Sarah. Her mother was Indian while her father was British. We got to talking while she munched on Toblerone. "So you are telling me that your friend's boyfriend mix blue dye in your shampoo and it gave your head a purplish hair?" "Yes, my dear friend." "Woah. I would like to meet him one day. Then what happened?" "What do you think? I literally took my sandal and ran out of the house to kill him like a mad girl. And since you have never been to India, let me tell you one thing very clearly. The middle-aged aunties are super gossip-mongers. So as a result, a rumor spread that I have schizophrenia." "Why would you have a schizophrenia?" "Like I said, I was running barefoot, wearing my bathroom robe..... while cussing. For being a fourteen-year-old I was cursing real bad." "Oh. Nice girl. Then did you get him?" "Did I get him?! I almost killed him with my sandal! Almost." It had been an hour since my arrival and we were discussing the craziest things that ever happened to us. It was fun. After about fifteen minutes, we decided to grab dinner and headed out. There was a cafe nearby and we decided to eat there. We were about to order when suddenly a question perked up in my mind. I did not eat non-vegetarian. I ordered a vegetarian burger and a cold coffee while. While waiting for our order we chatted and well let's just say there was no awkward silence. We were enjoying each other's company. While eating, we discussed some cultural fest for which she was really excited for. Suddenly she looked above me and waved at someone and motioned them to come over. "Hi, Sarr. How's it going? Oh, you have company!" "Yeah. Meet Avani. Avani, meet Scott." "Hi! Nice to meet you, Scott." "Nice to meet you too Avani." He smiled and plopped down beside Sarah. They discussed about some college stuff while I just tried to understand what they were talking about. I had watched few British movies to catch their accent but was not totally used to it. "So, where are you from Avani?" "India. Specifically from the city named Delhi. You might know the name since it's the capital city." "Oh yeah! I have heard a lot about that place. You eat Chola bhattura right?" It was funny watching him pronouncing that name. "Yes. It is one of the most popular dishes. Extremely delicious." "Why are you here Avani?" Scott asked. "Why do you think I am here? I am here to study." "No, what's the REAL reason? I mean like you seem like a bright student. You could have gotten admission anywhere in India. Then why here?" "Um... I will be honest then. I am here to get away from my family and their future plans for me." "Future plans?" "Yeah. They want me to marry this guy whom I don't like AT ALL when I reach 'The Age'. He is my dad's business partner's son. So I am here so that I get a really well-paying job and don't have to go back. And for that, I need a good resume. So, here I am!" I told them while rolling my eyes thinking about Jai. He was this really annoying bratty playboy who only knew how to talk stupid. We talked and came to know that they had a group of friends who were going to some kind of party tomorrow after lectures. They invited me and I gladly accepted this offer thinking, a little party won't bring me any harm. Right? Wrong. Little did I know that my little rendezvous will turn my life upside down...
