The Interview

The Detectives Pov

As he trailed behind her slowly, sitting down adjacent to her. Mason pulls out a note pad after he gets comfortable in a position to be face to face with the young lady. He fixes his tie to loosen it a bit and adjusts his writing hand to the notepad. As he was about to begin, he kept a sharp eye on her expressions and body language. Mason wanted to be sure that she was telling the truth.

" So miss Asteria- " he was briefly cut off by her.

She quickly interrupted him. " Please, stop being so.. formal... makes me feel totally uncomfortable whenever you say ' Miss ' as if I'm married. Just call me Asteria or Ria. ".

Mason nodded his head and continued. " So Ria, I know you said your parents have been missing for 24 hrs.. " his pen scribbling against his yellow notepad after he looked at Asteria for her answer.

Asteria stared at him for a bit, mostly trying to remember. But half distracted because of his cologne, whatever it was, it was really nice. She shook her head a bit to get back on track. "Every time they leave for work, I time them.. I know that sounds weird at first but it's for good reason, because they told me that sometimes their boss has them do some dangerous stuff for him, but they wouldn't tell me anything further than that. " She answered him, her body was not tense, somewhat relaxed, mostly nervous about her parents.

Mason could see it, see that she was not lying about this bit of information. Just that she was worried about her parents and that she gets distracted easily as young adults would. " So.. " He could hear his partner Eryx in his head.

Eryx had started a private link between him and his partner Mason.' I found something in the parents' room. It's a mission their boss gave to them.. but it's encrypted. We'll have to take it back to the base with us. '.

After the piece of information they needed was found, he just remembered that his Bosses had told them immediately when they found what they needed to go back to the base. " I'm sorry, but I just remembered that we have to meet another person for an interview downtown. ".

Eryx comes down the stairs and into the living room where his partner and the young girl are sitting, nodding towards his partner Mason. Giving him the " Let's go right now, look." Clearing his throat, he fixed his shirt and took a look at the young girl. " I am very sorry that we have to cut this interview short ma'am.. but our boss has us on a very tight schedule, and we now realize we didn't have enough time to do this. Here is our card in case you want to reschedule.. or if you have any other information for us."

Mason stood up and reached his hand out to Asteria, shaking it once she was standing. " it was nice meeting you. Again, we're very sorry for such a short interview. but please feel free to call this number at ANY time."

Asteria felt angry. As Mason was shaking her hand, she tightened the grip to show it physically, just like her father taught her to. " It was LOVELY meeting you two.. should have called me to let me know that this was going to be a short meeting." She knew something was off immediately but didn't know what it could be. Asteria took their stupid business card with the glossy and matte embossing. a fax number, email, and an office number. the 2 detectives' names, one on the front and one on the backside of the card. The backside of the card was the glossy embossing. The front side of the card was the matte velvety one.

Quickly, she rushed them out the door, didn't even tell them to have a safe trip back. She was in absolutely no mood for pleasantries and politeness. Especially for detectives that made it clear that they didn't want to help her out on her case.

The one thing she had overlooked was a phone number written on the backside of the card, She wouldn't notice this until after midnight.

After Mason and Eryx had left the girls' house, he felt terrible that he didn't fully give her any reassurance about her parents' whereabouts. but if it was true that she had no idea about her identity, then it wouldn't be good for her to find out this way. So it was best they found her parents first, so they could tell her this themselves. honestly, he thought it should have been a long time ago.

He took a deep breath before he started to say something to Eryx, " ..I feel really bad we didn't actually get to investigate it like we said we would... makes me feel like I destroyed someone's last chance at hope..? ". he explained it the best way he could, but he's always been a big softie. always had mushy feelings.

Eryx took some side glances at Mason while he was driving the car to the packs main base was. He sighed before he got started, waving his unbusy hand around whilst he spoke. " Well, Mason.. you have to remember we were supposed to play good cop bad cop, but you only played as yourself.. " he droned on about this for five minutes until he realized he was just yammering on about nothing important.

" Also, we have an important job to do here, which was only given to us because the ones who usually do it are 6 feet under..! we HAVE to find this girl's parents.. they had important information on the one lead we needed for the mission the Alpha from the Crystal pack had put out.. " he says, trying to remind his very emotional partner.

Mason was half frustrated and half understanding their predicament. but he knew deep down Eryx felt the same about that situation. He was just too stubborn to admit it out loud. " I get that.. but still... that girl, she's so young and has NO idea what or who she is.. and then her parents are just WHOOSH gone! vanished!! then we come in and BAM! leave as soon as we enter their house! like how incompetent does that make us look, " he spoke in a very fast like manner, also talking with his hands but more aggressively to show his passion about the subject.

" That poor girl.. imagine how horrifying it'd be to lose the only people in the world who would be there for you. just out of nowhere, on some random day.. just gone. without a notice. not an ounce of knowledge of where they could possibly be. " At this point, he knew he got into a rabbit hole about Asteria's situation. and then the silence hit the car.

they both knew exactly how that would feel. in that moment, they both would silently be hard on themselves for letting Asteria down.

about 5 hours into their long drive to their packs base, they both got called through their packs open mind link. ' We would like to announce some news, we are unsure of how to describe what kind it is. but it is news we felt.. should be shared with every one of our pack members. ' it was Atticus Fenrys' voice, the eldest of the 3 Alpha's. You could tell by it being his voice because of how commanding and gruff it was. ' We had an interesting call from another pack in Vancouver, The Juniper pack.. recently, their two highest warriors have gone missing. they were carrying some special information with them about a mission ' Zephyr Fenrys' voice came through next. He had a more soft but hushy country tone when he talked. All of the Fenrys brothers had it, but Zephyr's came out harder than the rest of them had. it's always a type of southern drawl. ' This mission is the same one every other pack has, at least within this half of the world. Everyone has their own tales of old, just so happens that within some radius of our pack, they have the same tales.. so it's either war or unity. neither one of us knows which outcome will play out.' Grey Fenrys' voice was the last, although the youngest his voice was playful at the appropriate times, when it came to times like this.. his voice was low and gravely with a hint of that southern drawl.

Atticus Fenrys decided to clear his throat. He knew Grey to be the most dramatic about any news and how he liked to sound beyond his years than the rest of them. ' To cut this tale a bit shorter, what Grey means by all of this.. is... ' he took a breath before continuing his speech.' There is an ancient artifact our pack, and many others have been searching for a very long time. It is a Claymore weapon called Altair ' He stopped to let either one of his brothers carry on where he left off from.

Zephyr Fenrys decided to chime in next. ' This weapon is said to help those in whatever they desire. Anyone can interpret that. However, they choose to. To our pack, we know this to be the sword of the true lycan king. One who holds the strength of thousands- .'

Grey Fenrys, being the youngest, cut his brother off before he can even finish off this long, lengthy speech. ' I know that was supposed to be inspiring and all, but the real news is that these warriors from Juniper pack had discovered the whereabouts of this weapon Altair. ' Clearing his throat to establish to his other brothers he had this down packed, so they can get over this sooner. ' But we had gotten news they went missing not that long ago, we hope to align with Juniper pack to find them, and strengthen our pack together as one. Shortly, we will be sending out our greatest warriors, trackers, and healers to Juniper Pack to help with the search. '

Atticus Fenrys popped back into the link to end it and started one personally with the two " detectives " he sent out earlier. ' Mason Ender and Eryx Priel, we do hope you have something important you've discovered out near Juniper Pack by now. ' he said in a more demanding tone, these two had a tendency to withhold some information at times where it was inappropriate. Mostly ever about pranks or other types of surprises. these two were hardly ever the serious kinds when they were at their own Packs territory.

Eryx physically swallowed aloud. Meanwhile, Mason had looked over at Eryx and nodded his head at him towards the USB stick on the dashboard junk tray. ' Yes, Alpha. We had found a USB drive.. Eryx found that it was encrypted. ' Eryx decided he would say something before Mason said anything else ' Yes, Alpha Atticus, we found it in the house that belongs to those 2 warriors mentioned in the announcement earlier. They had a child, her name is Asteria Melione she's only 17 years old. '

Mason cut him off in a flash.' It looks to us she has no idea what or who she truly is. We believe the parents never told her the truth of her being a shifter. Now that they're missing its going to be even more difficult to tell her the truth. ' he continues while pinching Eryx to shut him up from cutting him off.' We believe it's important to bring this young girl into the pack. She is alone, and the Juniper Pack may not even accept her in. ' he had to speak what was on his mind this whole drive to the Packs territory.

Atticus Fenrys sighed and said in a soft but notably annoyed tone ' We were never told of a child from Juniper Pack when we got the call, so what you say Mason may be true.. they might not even want her to join their pack if their warriors are dead. We as the 2 closet packs in this area have been in a neutral understanding of each other, but we know nothing of one another either. ' rubbing his temples and groaning, thinking about many other possible solutions but all of the outcomes of them are completely different. ' Fine! bring her here.. we will notify the Juniper Pack of this and we'll go from there.. just try to keep everything under the radar ' rolling his eyes ' and what I mean by that is, Absolutely no telling her the truth until she can see it with her own eyes of what she truly is! the less probability of her taking a run for it and getting herself killed by her own pack unknowingly ' his answers and demands were very reasonable. these two betas were his families favorite. and their family as well.

Eryx and Mason nodded their heads at each other and promised Atticus their Alpha, that they would not do such a stupid dumb thing like that. Especially to a youngling like Asteria, that's mostly why they spilled the beans so fast to their Alpha. if they hadn't thought that one through then yeah that situation would have played out and they would be in some major crap.

Atticus had to say this in a softer tone to them ' And please for the love of God, keep up whatever storyline you were given by Nienna The head of the trackers.. because if you don't I can't stop them from doing whatever they have planned for you if you mess anything up ' that was going to be the last thing he said to them but he decided not to, despite them being annoying and immensely childish. They were his dearest friends. ' get back home safely while you're at it, I can not and will not tell your families if something terrible happens to yall, your mothers will tear me and my brothers to shreds ' he joked.

Eryx and Mason laughed so hard and told Atticus that their mothers would not do that to them, if anything they would have babied him and his other brothers if something like that were to happen. they soon cut the link between each other.

Mason looked out the window on the passenger side, watching the white birch trees change colors. " Eryx we should probably turn the car back around, towards that girl Asteria.. so we can bring her back to our packs territory " he trailed off for a minute then continued " before we hit the packs territory line " he chuckled.

Eryx was too spaced out to even notice that he hadn't done that the very second Atticus had told them they had to. " OH s**t! " he yells out right when he turns the car around at a barreling pace, causing Mason to brace himself on the sharp turn he just pulled. " Thank the goddess that there isn't any traffic on this road! " he laughed but in a more nervous way.

Mason looked at him with wide eyes and just continues to shout obscenities at him for what he just pulled, yelling at him in another language he spoke. he knew Eryx didn't understand him at all when he switched like that, but they continue back down the road towards Asteria.
