17.The grounds

Kat POV

.........

I opened my eyes to darkness. The bed I lay in is soft and the scents that surrounded me calmed me. I pulled the thick comforter up further and buried my face in the pillow. I allowed my last thoughts to come back.

..... ⚠️ ⚠️ WARNING Its short but not nice.....

His hand wrapped harshly around my neck. He shoved me against the wall and I cowered away from him.

"You're my b***h now." he snarled in my ear and began ripping at my cloths.

"No! GET OFF!" Except he never did.

....

Tears ran down my face. Everything had been taken from me when I was young. I was sure then that my mate wouldn't take me. Much worse happened though. I wasnt even sure where to begin explaining to my mate what I have been through.

I just wanted him to reject me so I could continue on with my pathetic life.

I felt the bed dip down, so deep in my thoughts I hadn't heard anyone in the room with me.

I lept up grabbing them by the throat. They were large and heavy and I used my body quickly getting in top, pinning them to the bed wheezing with the pressure I put on their neck.

Large gentle hands ran up my arms soothingly as though I wasn't cutting off air and blood. Then I scented him. Deep forest and earth, Clean with rain.

I jumped off him quickly, keeping my head down and neck exposed in submission.

"I'm sorry Alpha King. I didn't hear you." I apologized quietly. My eyes adjusted and I could see and feel him sit up.

He cupped my face making me look at him. "No apology needed. I had been trying to avoid scaring you." He wiped at my face with his thumbs and it was only then I realized I was still crying.

My Wolf whined at me wanting to curl up with him to protect her. For once I let her.

I wrapped my arms around his middle and nuzzle my face into his chest. He hesitated just a second before pulling me closer to him.

"Shhh... it's ok. I'm not going to let anyone hurt you. I got you." Xaivier soothed me laying us both down. I became faintly aware that I started sobbing and soon after I fell asleep in my mates arms.

Next time I woke up, light came in through the window peacefully. I stretched feeling the more relaxed than I can remember ever being.

My mates scent surrounded me and I felt him lay behind me. I'm sure he's watching me too.

I rolled over looking deep into his eyes.

"Hello, darling." he said in a lovely deep voice. I smiled up at him.

"Hi."

"Sleep well?" he grinned sleepily already knowing I slept well. He still had no idea how well though.

"Better than I have in years." I told him honestly. I snuggled back in for a few more moments then my stomach growled and Xaivier had us get up to eat.

"Its our breakfast time, the others will be down there." he warned. I just knoded my head and followed him down.

Everyone was in the kitchen.

Rose had a bunch of scents from the kitchen. Bacon, eggs, pancakes and it smelled so delicious my mouth watered.

Naturally they each greated Xaivier.

"Goodmorning Alpha!" Rose sing songed walking over to hug him. Xaivier hesitated to give her a hug and to my surprise he looked at me.

Before he could even ask I relaxed my body and waved a hand off to him. "No. They are your family, you don't need to ask to be around them." Rose smiled and they embraced as I moved past them to take over the cooking. I ignored the eyes I felt on me until i couldn't.

I turned to see Rose waiting to start cooking again, Amber hung off Xaivier being excessive, Aiden was simply watching me and Josh glanced nervously between Amber and I. I turned back to flipping the pancakes.

"Josh don't look so worried. I'm not a feral wolf. Rose if you would like to cook again just ask, these are ready for you to do so." I stepped back and handed her the spatula.

"Oh! I just didn't want to interrupt! Thank you!" she said

I went over to where Amber hung onto Xaivier. This made Josh stand up. I ignored that as well.

"Amber." She huffed and looked at me. "I said you could be around him. In the way of living together and being family. I did not mean you could try to bed him. Please get off my mate." This seemed to piss her off.

"I've slept with him frequently before you came. Why do I need to act differently?" Sage snapped at her response and a snarl ripped through me.

"He is mine get off, Amber." Xaivier pushed her away now and he touched my shoulder. My Wolf calmed at his touch. Josh went over to pull Amber and she shook him off.

"No! This b***h doesn't get to come into my house and tell me what or who I can't do!" I launched at her before Xaivier could get me. I dug my nails into her and put her face down on the table.

"This is not just your house. It is everyone's. I have boundaries and I just told you them. Now back down before we take this outside for exactly one minute to clear up the confusion." Thankfully she noded and I was able to let go.

Things were quiet after that. I could already tell Xaivier was a good Alpha. He aloud us the freedom and space to be who we are. I knew many Alphas who didn't do that.

We ate peacefully, I only knoded and laughed. Xaivier sat at the head of the table with me to his right and Aiden across from me next to Rose. Amber sat next to me.

She ignored me and I ignored her.

"So, Kat would you know anything of the resistance?" Aiden asked randomly.

"Only a few things." I shrugged.

"Like what? Are they feral?"

"That's enough." Alpha snapped. He didn't look happy about our conversation and I then knew it was Aiden I'd have to talk to to get any of my point across.

First opportunity I had I would steel him. I think I already knew how.

Xaivier decided to take us on a picnic later that day. It was my first ever.

"Its beautiful here." I said to Xaivier as we sat to unpack the food we brought. This is the most I've eaten in a very long time

After we picknicked, we walked around the territory. He named off several important places and I took care to pay attention and asked questions as needed.

"I have a habit of just walking into places, where am I not aloud to walk in annanounced?" I blurted.

"Well, my office in the packhouse, the cells, and anyone's room at home. You need my permission for all of them. Even to go into my Betas room. The common room is open door type of thing, you can always go in there without asking. Just be warned that is where alot of group activity happens." he paused in thought. "Also my office at home and the room at the end of the left hall. Both need my explicit permission."

"What's in the other room?"

A sly smile crept on his face. "Maybe someday, if you get in enough trouble you'll find out." he winked and I dropped the topic.

It was nice getting to know his ways. The way he walked on his territory and everyone we passed knoded politely or smiled in excitement to see him. He greeted them each by name. I on the other hand, stayed silent.

"I learned something about you today." he stated randomly.

I gave him a questioning look.

"You aren't a people person. Nore do you enjoy being in a pack."

I stopped walking on the wooded path. "I'm a Sigma, I'm the most people person here. Also, I have been in packs before. I even belonged to one. I know pack life."

He raised an eyebrow, "You are the most people person here?"

"You care for them more than I do. I have to bounce around rank groups to socialize but it makes me the most social."

"Hm, I'll have to watch you."

We eventually ended up back at the house.

"Kat. I'm going to let you have time to yourself. Take a bath and relax. I'll be in my office, if you need me knock."

"Ok thank you Xaivier." His eyes flashed dangerously and he looked upset.

"That is your Alpha speaking." He spoke in a hard tone, using his Alpha voice, to wich even I nearly wet my panties to.

"Yes Alpha. Thank you Alpha." I said as I looked at the floor. He gave a nod and I went up to take my bath.

Sleep came quickly to me.

I fell asleep waiting for Xaivier... but he never came.
